I tend to use it in reference to ideological communities, except when referencing very ethnic family groups (especially the Scots and Irish).
My clan doesn’t do that, I have no transgender family members, yet.
We are Scottish, with a few Irish thrown in, it’s why I use the term.

None of those (not even Fox News which you failed to mention) insisted for years that the Sandy Hook massacre was faked and the bereaved parents were "crisis actors".
Otoh, Alex Jones was the only one who reported the armed Mexican invasion of the US in 2005:

He does give an undocumented example of two people, not teachers, who supposedly did so. The headlines never match the real story. He attempts to create fear based on made-up lies and makes the right-wing look crazy.
