I'm on @SenateCloakroom like white on rice.

As of right now — literally this minute — the Senate has not voted yet, and the government remains shut down by Democrats (Day 40, still the longest ever).

What's Happening Right This Second
  • Democratic caucus meeting started ~5:00 PM ET and is still ongoing behind closed doors. Moderates are staying mum when asked how they'll vote.

The Senate floor is quiet, no one speaking, no votes called.

C-SPAN Senate feed is just the empty chamber with the clock ticking.

At least no Democrat staffers are recording butt-fucking videos right now.

The text for for the three-bill "minibus" (full-year funding for VA, Agriculture/SNAP, and Legislative Branch) was released this afternoon.

~6:00–7:00 PM ET: Senate reconvenes. First vote (needs 60 to invoke cloture): Motion to proceed to the original September 19 House-passed CR (H.R. 5371).
  • All 53 Republicans expected YES.
  • At least 10 Democrats are reportedly telling leadership they're ready to vote YES to move forward.

On the table:

Immediate amendment to replace the short CR with:
  • Minibus (full-year funding for ~25% of government)
  • CR through Jan 31 for everything else
  • Ironclad commitment to a standalone Senate vote in December on 1-year ACA subsidy extension (would need 60 votes to pass; House outcome uncertain)
  • Possible backpay + rehiring of furloughed workers

  • If GOP wins, the amended bill goes to the Bill to House (Speaker Johnson can recall members quickly)
  • Trump has said he'll sign it to reopen the government tomorrow morning
  • Markets futures are already pricing in ~65% chance of Schumer caving (up from 27% Friday)

Republicans added SNAP funding to the latest bill.

Democrats realize that if they still vote no, it proves their "concern for SNAP recipients" was political theater.

Democrats may end their shutdown & stop punishing families as we enter the holiday season.

The ACA discussion is complicated and requires more time.

GOP caucus appears solid. They'll hold the line, I hope.

Democratic caucus just wrapped up ~6:30 PM ET. Some walked out stone-faced, refusing to say how they’ll vote.

The floor is currently quiet; no live proceedings.

Thune’s office says bill is “imminent” and they still plan a procedural cloture vote tonight on the minibus + Jan 31 CR package.

Republicans need to hit 60 "Ayes". Hill sources say they have 8-12 Democrats lined up, but nothing's locked until the whip count finishes.

I didn't know the Dems were allowed into the Republicans private room area, so how would they be recording any butt fucking videos seeing it is the Republicans and MAGAS that are into that stuff.

One of the two individuals featured in the explicit video was a congressional staffer for Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) who had access to the hearing room, USCP said in a statement.

Neither the staffer, Aidan Maese-Czeropski, nor the other man in the tape have cooperated with authorities in their investigation, police said.

The video was recorded on the morning of December 13, 2023 (though the exact timing of the act within that day isn't publicly specified beyond it being when the room was not open to the public).

  • No vote has occurred yet – leaders are still finalizing unanimous consent agreements for the vote sequence
  • Cloture vote expected imminently (within the next 15–45 minutes) on the motion to proceed to H.R. 5371 (the House-passed CR that will be amended

Here's what they're voting on:
  • Funds the government through January 30, 2026
  • Includes a three-bill "minibus" (full-year funding for Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and Legislative Branch)
  • Reverses all ~4,000 shutdown-related layoffs (RIFs) and halts further RIFs until Jan 30
  • Full SNAP benefits restored retroactively. Judge McConnell can go fuck himself.
  • Guaranteed standalone Senate vote in December on ACA subsidy extension (no extension in this bill; House Speaker Johnson has already said he won't bring it up)

Prognosis:

  • All 53 Republicans: YES
  • At least 8–12 Democrats + Angus King (I): YES (Shaheen, King, Kaine, Democrats from Trump-won states already locked in; more said to be joining the revolt against Shutdown Schumer)
  • Schumer and progressives: NO (but they can't block it anymore)

If cloture passes (and it will), amendments and final passage could wrap by midnight–2 AM.

Bill then pings to House (they reconvene noon Monday, vote Monday night). President Trump signs immediately.

Watch live: Senate floor feed just went hot – they're doing leader remarks now, vote any minute.

Sorry, @Tbird19482, the only Democrat butt-fucking you'll see tonight in the Senate will be Shutdown Schumer getting raw-dogged live and in color.

Bernie is bloviating. Hilarious. He's raging. I hope he drops dead from an aneurism.
