People with the same genitals get civil union

That's separate but equal. You want to pretend it has something to do with procreation, which isn't a requirement nor mentioned when giving the marriage license, because you are too dishonest to admit what this is really about.

Well it's not based on procreation as the govt doesn't require people to be fertile or to procreate but the compelling interest for the state is to encourage pairings that offer the best chance of both. Two people of the same gender cannot procreate.

And again this doesn't address the problem that gay people were never refused marriage because they were gay. This whole argument is based on a non existent discrimination.

They are refused the ability to have their relationship recognized by the state with the person they WANT it to be recognized.

And the reason it has been so difficult to get states to do the right thing is because of religion.

I have no particular issue with recognizing it but it's not a marriage. Again you want to bring up irrelevant factors. First it was doesn't make sense now it's want. Want has nothing to do with this.

Again you're connecting them but it's erroneous to do so in my opinion.

Not a lawyer, but my understanding is that civil unions are only recognized at the state level and, thus, are not equal to federal marriage benefits.

They don't want to marry (otherwise they'd choose to do so).
They "want" a 'civil union' (and they can and do choose to do so).
However, that's not REALLY what they want. What they REALLY want is supremacy over others. What they REALLY want is special treatment, NOT equal treatment.

What supremacy? Same sex marriages have no impact on straight marriages.
 
People need to understand that this SCOTUS refusing to hear something NOW, does not mean they will not take it later, as they have done with several voting rights issues. It is when they hear it and rule against it you should feel more comfort.

THis SCOTUS focus right now is on expanding POTUS power and taking away power from Congress and they know they need to pace out the prior precedents they tear up in any given session.

Once they have recrafted the power structure so that only really the POTUS has power with the SC as the only check and balance, they WILL focus on issues like this and ones they see as abortion adjacent such as birth control, etc.
