The Senate's top two leaders announced a bipartisan deal Wednesday to reopen the federal government after a 16-day partial shutdown as well as avert an unprecedented debt default.

"The compromise we reached will provide our economy with the stability it desperately needs," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., who reached the agreement with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

"This has been a long, challenging few weeks for Congress and for the country. It is my hope that today we can put some of those most urgent issues behind us," McConnell said.

What a bunch of ineffective gutless losers.

We'll have to go thru the whole thing again in Jan. Millions of govt workers will fear for their jobs AGAIN and not spend over the holiday season, which will have an even more negative effect on the economy.

What a way to treat people, leave them believing the rug will just be pulled out from under them & their families again.

You do realize that government employees have always kept their jobs gotten paid after a shutdown, right?

No one said they lost their jobs, they're laid off....their jobs are there when the govt gets going again.

They are supposed to get back pay this time, but it was negotiated. What if they dont next time? And they have to save their $$ over the holidays to get thru the next, possible, one.

Not to mention all the businesses supported by those workers that also lost income.

So how is there any "fear for their jobs"?

They arent getting paid now. They have bills to pay, mortgages. It may happen again in the near future. They can start to lose benefits, health ins. for them & their kids. There's no guarantee their jobs wont be 'cut' the next time around. Sometimes layoffs are permanent.

Instability often causes fear.

Sorry, it seemed very obvious you were referring to yourself. No need to cover it up.

What am I covering up?

You made the statement that:

...Millions of govt workers will fear for their jobs AGAIN...

Are you claiming that government workers lost their jobs, or are in danger of losing their jobs due to the recent "shutdown"?

THat's not an actual question and therefore difficult to answer. It's not even a complete sentence. Care to try again? I want to give you a chance at expressing yourself, as you so rarely attempt more than a lame leading noncommittal phrase.

Did they know the outcome of the govt shutdown that just ended?

Can't answer my question, I see.

They knew their back pay was guaranteed because a special act was passed, and they knew the "shutdown" would end eventually, so in essence they enjoyed a paid vacation.

Where's the "fear"?
