Agreed about Federal charges simply because of the politics involved. If Trump is convicted of a crime, I believe it'll be state charges; either election interference or tax evasion.

Prosecuting, trying and jailing a former President carries all kinds of potential unintended consequences.
IMO, they should charge him, make a deal promising no jail time in exchange for an admission of guilt based on the evidence, then bar him from ever holding office again.
If possible, bar him from politics altogether.
Get his fat ass in our rear view mirror as quickly as possible.

Not sure if cowardly is the correct word in this situation. As for Pelosi, she was pushed into the first impeachment because she knew she didn't have the numbers to convict. The second impeachment was clear because of the violence of 1/6 and the direct attack on democracy. Win or lose, the event transcended partisan politics and must be confronted. The fact so many Republicans proved to have the spines of overpaid, over fat octopuses was the most startling result IMO. Finally seeing some Republicans admit the attack is good. Let's not forget that Barr saw it coming and jumped on the correct side of the tracks.

Agreed. It's the primary goal since very few Americans really want to do a deep dive into an autocracy with Pedo Don at the top.
Putting Trump in jail is unlikely for both political and wealth reasons. Trump's few billion dollars still buys him a lot of justice in the form of lawyers willing to take his money (up front if they're smart) that can keep many of his crimes in court until after he's dead in 5-10 years.
In Russia, their most likely path to freedom is for Putin to take a short flight out of a 10th floor hospital window.
In America, the path is to block from political service and break them financially.
Trump will have his home, not the resort outside his personal quarters nor the surrounding grounds except for his personal lot...which is probably the foundation. He'll be heavily restricted and constantly monitored. As an ex-President, he warrants the Secret Service detail, but, with a court judgement, the detail would have to report everything they witness.
That's how we do it in America...and the civilized world.
I think if Smith hands him an ironclad case, he’ll be hard pressed to ignore it. The prosecutors he recently added tells me it’s heating up.
Garland should make a statement where the instigation is. Barr would have no problem doing it. The Dems need to show some fucking strength. The GOP are the only ones talking and the public is listening. When/if Garland ever finds his nutsack, the narrative will already be baked.
