Shifts tend to hit the whole country the same way, which is a bad sign for Republicans

Republicans still strong in Florida
Are they?

There have been two special elections since the big election, both in very safe seats in Florida. These were districts designed to be won by Republicans, so they won the districts... No surprise, until you drill down into the numbers.

In 147 days since the November election, Republicans lost 9.09%, and 9.87%. Maybe you would expect that in Florida's First, where Gaetz was being replaced after having molested children, but Republicans lost more in Florida's Sixth, where Waltz was being replaced so he could be National Security Advisor to trump. It seems being in the trump cabinet is worse than being a child molester in some voters' eyes.

And that was before the destruction of trump's "liberation day." It would be worse now. The honest Republicans (are there any of them left?) will admit it is bad, but will say that when things get better Republicans will gain back their losses. The dishonest Republicans will claim that these Republican dominated districts were somehow cheated by Democrats just to make Republicans look bad... Or some other nonsense.

Will things get better? We are obviously headed for a bad recession, and high inflation. Maybe that will just last a decade or two(I do not believe so, but you might)... But that is well past the next two elections. trump is unquestionably responsible. There are not enough contested Senate elections in 2026 for Democrats to control the Senate, but it is looking pretty much impossible for Republicans to keep the House. I am beginning to wonder whether a few Republican Senators might defect, and hand the Senate to the Democrats.
