Should Obama have vetoed the bill?

This was a plan by the right to try and make Obama have to sign it with this laguage in it to shame him and have a club to beat him with in the election.

They knew he wouldnt use it and they can lie about it being HIS idea.

Then when they win "THEIR" president can use this power to consolidate their power.

It was a republican trap.

Now if you right wing run scotus has to decide on this one their opinion will vary depending on who is president at the time.

We are extremely disappointed that President Obama signed this bill even though his administration is already claiming overly-broad detention authority in court. Any hope that the Obama administration would roll back those claims dimmed today. Thankfully we have three branches of government, and the final word on the scope of detention authority belongs to the Supreme Court, which has yet to rule on the scope of detention authority. But Congress and the president also have a role to play in cleaning up the mess they have created because no American citizen or anyone else should live in fear of this or any future president misusing the NDAA’s detention authority.

have some more kool aid, desh.

so you think that because the right wrote a bill that they got a dem to cosponser that means its all the ONE dems fault and the republicans get off scott free for writing this into the bill.

Heres a clue , cosponser is not synonomous with author.

You see someone wrote this bill and you dont care who that was as long as you can find a dem to pretend its his fault.

Partisan hack

are you always this acute and ignoring previous info? for instance, my post about how Obama said he would veto the bill UNLESS language that specifically exempted citizens would be removed?

Why did the republican house write a bill that gave Obama this power?

when you hand something like this to a president on a silver platter there is usually a reason for doing it.

Why cant any of you cons tell me why the republican House wanted to give this power to Obama?

LOL...true projection

why are ignoring levin's role in this? fact is, there were BOTH pubs and dems were for this and some against. your weak attempt to blame only the republicans is laughable. you ignore that obama has argued for the same principles in court.

this is truly hilarious...when the dems controlled the house during bush's time, you never blamed them for a thing, in fact, you said it was all bush's or the pubs fault.....now.......you sing a different tune.

Funny how that never gets mentioned.

You see the republicans in the house wrote this into the bill.

Why did they want to give Obama this power?

You are confused. Republicans insisted this remain in the bill. OBAMA wanted it taken OUT.

???Obama has asserted he has the right to target and kill US citizens outside of the US, and thats why OBAMA tried to have the portions that exempted citizens removed. He failed to do so.

I thought you guys liked that one?

you used to when it was Bush doing it.

Now why did the republican house try to give extraconstitutional powers to Obama?

Why did they write it in the bill in the first place?
Obama demanded it.

Who wrote the part of the bill you guys hate and why did the house republicans AND DEMOCRATS make sure it was in the bill?
fixed that for you. also, I can only assume that every republican and democrat that voted yea on the bill, wrote it in the bill.

Lets remember This bill started in the house.
let's remember, this bill started in the senate, when i first posted about it.

Bush never targeted and assasinated US citizens or asserted the authority to do so. Such strong opinions you have on a topic you know nothing about.

Officials: American al-Qaeda can be targeted and killed
WASHINGTON (AP) — American citizens working for al-Qaeda overseas can legally be targeted and killed by the CIA under President Bush's rules for the war on terrorism, U.S. officials say.

The authority to kill U.S. citizens is granted under a secret finding signed by the president after the Sept. 11 attacks that directs the CIA to covertly attack al-Qaeda anywhere in the world. The authority makes no exception for Americans, so permission to strike them is understood rather than specifically described, officials said.
