Size of Government: Your Thoughts (Or Lack Thereof...)

The Federal government should be:

  • Total voters
    14
We can and will be socially liberal and fiscally conservative. Republicans aren't.
We are slashing military spending. ATF should be next.
NRAZI heads exploding.

pissed on

Probably in class

This message is hidden because pissed on is on your ignore list.

Shut up idiot. No one gives a fuck what a little boy thinks.

I've had a few theories about you. At first, maybe you were just a troll. Nah (well yea you are, but not just for the sake of it).

Perhaps you were a 14 yr old brat. Nope.

Maybe you were some social parasite from Europe. After all you seemed to translate my name into some language or another. lolnope.

Now I'm curious to know if you weren't some bully's kid. After all, you exhibit enough of the synptoms. You only stick to your protective group, you won't lay out your logic for the public, and you viciously attack any who decry you.

That you won't even attempt to listen to basic arguement nor (to my knowledge) even click links provided only makes me more curious. Noooo, I couldn't ignore you. But I'm not sure if I can tell if you ignored me. . . oh well, we'll find out soon enough.

I have come to realize that I am not for small government. I don't even know what "small government" means. Can anyone explain it?

I am, however, for leaner/smarter government. Example: right now we spend around $3.5 trillion/year. I'd like to see that reduced to 21% of GDP (around $3.1 trillion) and then limit budget growth according to economic growth.
I see what you're thinking but setting Government spending as a part of GDP may not be a wise idea. What if there is a natural disaster, economic catastrophe and/or war? Then the government having it's hands tied on spending may not be a wise idea.

When people say they want smaller government what they usually mean is they support spending on government programs that directly benefit them or that they support philosophically and that they want all other spending cut or eliminated.

Asking how big government should be is like asking how big an ice cube should be. The answer is the same. It should be just big enough.

That is to say, Government should be big enough to provide the services that "WE THE PEOPLE" determine it should provide, via our democratic process.

Delete some agencies. Many of the services provided can be placed under other departments. For example, Interior could cover energy, agriculture, and any environmental service it does not currently oversee.

remember that the feds have to adopt policies that effect over 300,000,000 people and an ever growing population and currently an increasingly aging population

how do you propose dealing with these facts

Legalize drugs and abolish the DEA. Let the FDA and other regulators step in.

you and i have agreed on this for years, the one exception that i would make is antibiotics

the use of antibiotics has gotten out of hand and the incidence of antibiotic resistant diseases is growing...including mrsa which i picked up during a stay in a hospital, fortunately only in my nasal passages so far...

Well, we could always give the CDC joint oversight. My mom always told me to avoid buying antibacterial sanitizers for those reasons.

Vote in the poll and then discuss.

The quote is odd. "Things that die can't fuck." WTH? We all die. I promise you that has nothing to do with whether or not I can fuck. Unless it means they can't fuck after they die. At which point.....duh....nothing reproduces after it dies.

Unfortunately, this is one thing I agree with Alias about.
Yes, you can support legalization and lower taxes but being fiscally conservative does not allow for needed socially liberal actions.

Sure it does. Is gay marriage mainly a liberal or conservative idea? Is removing religious teachings and "creationism" from public schools a liberal or conservative agenda?

As far as the safety net for our society, there are ways to provide that safety net and still be fiscally conservative. Include mandatory career training in any welfare system. Put a time limit on it.

They did. When Clinton was president.
