Well ... here I am stranded in my home because of a foot of overnight snow fall. What a change of life .... !
My personal experience over the past 4 days ... Friday evening we had a wind storm that knocked an old maple tree into a telephone pole and blew up the transformer... we were out of power for the next 36 hours ...
Monday morning I went to work into Downtown Buffalo ... my first day mind you ... by the end of the work day we had a lake effect snow storm right smack in the rush hour ..... it took me 2 hours to get home (normally a 30 minute drive)
Stupid me ... I neglected to properly winterize my Florida Car ... it caused me problems on the way home ...
Overnight snow fall saw 6 more inches .. now it is too dangerous for me to drive into work ... I'll have to winterize it ... but Im also going to buy a used 4X4 today ... we were going to buy another car anyways.

So.. i moved from hurricane alley to the North Pole .... I just cant win ....

well... this may sound stupid too you but... i think your lucky.. i wish i had that much snow, maybe youll learn to love it as well.

et a tacoma... great trucks

Excuse me for being politically incorrect but I am leaning towards an Explorer or maybe a Jeep Cherokee .... iow .. SUV
I cannot afford to go new or newer at this time... so going SUV in the green is out of the question.

i had a 00 merc mountaineer last year with AWD and 5.0 v8. got about 16mpg avg. great for a truck; but like all trucks, they ride like sh!t. had a 97 grand cherkee the year beofer with AWD an 5.2 v8. sam as the exploere; nice for snow, but rides like sh!t.

you may want to try a used subaru outback or forrester, but they cost, even used.

The Subaru wouldn't be able to make it out of our driveway... My wife's SUV high-centers if I don't drive through the driveway a few times and knock down some of the snow first...

right now driving 92 merc gmarq, rear drive, no abs or traction control!!! not bad this morning but we just had a dusting. i may have to break out the continental, but it's too nice to drive in the slop around here. i may have to drive the 95 cirrus; it's a pile but it has new tires, good heat and fwd.

mayb i'll pick up a nicer 4wd at the auction this week, but it's been hard to find a decent one lately...and it's gonna be too cold to go out and look this week!!!

Klaatu, of course it snows in the Buffalo area, heck it snows there when it does not snow anywhere else.

damitcles, where do you live that you get so much snow?
I live outside Denver on the plains. It isn't really the amount of snow, it is the fact that my driveway seems to be the gathering place for all the nearby snow drifts... They party all night in my driveway and pass out lying there.

Actually Im 30 minutes away ... in the Falls.
I worked out there when GTE was a going concern, I trained people out there. It was freaky cold in the winter at the Falls... On the US side it looked like a dying city, on the Canada side (legal gambling) was a well-lit thriving tourist trade.

Well thats a matter of debate .... I grew up here ... lived here for 39 years before I moved to Florida... after an 8 year absence I just plain forgot how those sudden Lake Effects cause havoc ... , not forgetting to mention that I didnt prepare well, then again I never had to drive the 190 to go to work... so this was a new experience.
But... I will say the people in Wisonsin and Minnesota have a case to make ...

It is a dying city ... victim of decades of corrupt politics and Union practices. It now has a very successful Indian Casino smack in the middle of its Downtown area ... but once again corrupt politics allowed for a terrible deal for the city.... they aint seeing a cent out of the Casino's success.
And of course..this allows for an increase in crime because the city cant afford to beef up its patrol.

Its really too bad... because the jewel.... the Falls itself is one this Country's most awsome natural wonders. A sight to behold.

we're neighbors...i'm down the road a piece; just far enough to usually miss the lake erie lake effect...
