It isn’t the media driving the Epstein conspiracies, it is his own base, they created them, echoed them, which Trump himself participated. The media is just covering Trump and his team’s inane “explanations,” and of course the Democrats are doing their best to keep Trump’s PIA going

Before Trump, such as Hunter would have been laughed off, dismissed as the dimwit he is, but now that Trump has set the bar so low, anyone can just throw shit out there and many will swallow it as true. Trump has been doing that for years, and now Trump has become a victim of his own schtick, and one he can not control the narrative
