so let's compare COVID19 to POLIO.

Get this through your head: #COVID19 is deadlier and more contagious than #POLIO. At times during this pandemic the US has seen more COVID cases and deaths in a single day than polio caused in it's worst years. From npr:

In 1952 alone, nearly 60,000 children were infected with the virus; thousands were paralyzed, and more than 3,000 died. Hospitals set up special units with iron lung machines to keep polio victims alive. Rich kids as well as poor were left paralyzed.

So far, just in April 2021, there have been over 147,000 cases reported in the US, and over 18,000 deaths. On February 12, 2021 — a single day — there were 99,565 cases and 5,463 deaths reported.

We talk about it now quiet tones and hushed awe, but Polio scared the CRAP out of us. Those of us old enough to remember can talk about lining up at school to get the vaccine and how we were attempting to wipe it off the face of the planet. I can remember as a child collecting money for the March of Dimes as part of my Halloween trick-or-treating.

When people like Senator Ron Johnson and “Doctor” Rand Paul start talking about how we’ve done enough, and we can relax now I just want to punch these idiots in the throat. Every time that they want to “relax” the mask mandates and re-open everything before enough of us have been vaccinated I feel the same. They have forgotten how bad it can be — and I’d bet they know of no one who needed an Iron Lung.

Or more likely they’ve never understood how bad it can be. They’ve forgotten. I would wager that most people you ask that they would believe that Polio was much worse than COVID-19. The truth is that COVID is horrifically worse. Comparing the two is almost comical ~ Animeraider

I was in elementary school for the last big American polio epidemic as well as the initial Salk vaccine distribution.

I can remember all the many pictures of kids in iron lungs. It was terrifying.

With covid, the victims died on modern respirators instead, and nobody took pictures.

Maybe that's why some people just never got it.
The kids may be forgiven.
The adult deniers have just been incredibly stupid.

Garbage DemoKKKrat Panic Porn; WuFlu affects those with co-morbidities; it's basically a bad flu.

Call it what you want but it killed almost 600,000 Americans. It needed to be addressed as a pandemic, which it was. Basically, flus do not kill 600,00 in America and millions across the globe.

Why don't we compare COVID to lead poisoning, or maybe a range of toxic chemicals next? Since Chinese Disease and Polio have two completely different mechanisms of infection and how they act on the body any comparison is completely irrelevant.

Now, on immunization... When the polio vaccine came out all us kids at the time were taken down to places like the grocery store where we lined up and got to take a sugar cube off an aluminum tray at the checkout counter and eat it. You went down like twice if I recall to do that.
I look at how inefficiently the vaccine is being done for Chinese Disease and can only think that if it were done more efficiently the bulk of the population would already be vaccinated.

The nonchalance with which some are so quick to dismiss a threat perceived to only others is truly deplorable. We get so much from living in society. It should be common sense to look out for one another. We are stronger as a collective than the sum of our parts.

Hello reagansghost,

those are very nice sentiments but unfortunately mankind has always been cursed with anti-science/anti-reality reactionaries, who are literally incapable of grasping your post. They are so far gone even using the innocuous the term 'collective' sends them on a senseless anti-communist rant. they revel in their ignorance, consider it a badge of honor

no defeating this mindset, part and parcel of human society.........all we can do is work around them as best as possible to achieve a civil society, one not run by these throwbacks to medieval times

Hello reagansghost,

read earlier we now have more vaccinations in stock than we have customers wanting them

Americans are so fuckin stupid it's hard to believe

Peer pressure is strong.

But there lies hope. Nobody knows if you got vaccinated or not. So you can talk a big game, but also sneak off and go ahead and get vaccinated.

That is actually a good thing because we can begin to export vaccine. We can never hope to conquer the pandemic by only inoculating Americans. It has to be the world. India and Brazil could use a lot of vaccine now.

I hope you're correct and are many stealth pro-vaxxers out there - maybe the old self-preservation instinct will kick in who knows. tried of wearing a mask and social distancing like everyone else

Congrats on an absolutely wrong post from beginning to end. Lead poisoning is not a virus and we do not spread it from person to person. Polio and the Trump virus both can be ended with a vaccine.
You missed the point in the polio vaccine. The people were not right-wing snowflakes. If you wanted to be safe from polio and end the plague, you took the vaccine without being an asshole about it. We were lined up in the school auditorium and got our shots. kids afraid of shots were noisy, but they got them too.
Biden has done a fabulous job in the face of right wing crazies. Trump only got them for himself and Melania, in a data dungeon away from the press.

Would be a good reason to begin requiring proof of vaccination for entry into certain venues. That approach has been used with great success in Israel...

A very big difference is that everyone was united in fighting polio.

America was very united then.

America is an effective fighter when we are united.

Divided we fall.

The right wing is hurting America by being so contrary.

It's OK to have your own beliefs, but when you are voted down you are voted down and it is time to move on and reunite with the rest of the nation. Americans are on the same side. Liberals are not the enemy of America.

The election is over. Let it go already.

its way too difficult to tell when you manipulative lying fucksticks are trying to lie to the the people to elicit certain responses and when you're truly afraid of something.........
