1960s Chick Magnet
No problems in my HS gym class. Was a lot of fun.
I was excused from gym when I in was in high school in the early 1960s.
I got an extra study period.
Physical education in public school was a mandated state law
unless one was physically challenged [then called handicapped]
and got a physical deferment from one's doctor.
However, athletes on the school teams were excused from gym during the season that their sport was active.
Some played football / basketball or hockey /and baseball all year round and didn't have to take physical education at all.
I didn't play on ANY school teams at all but went to the boxing gym daily and thus demanded to be excused as well.
They didn't even give me trouble over it.
I'm not sure about gym class. Good health is important, but can we afford to take time away from academics for it?
I'd let kids work out on their own time, but there's no full consensus on that.
