So now that the APP FARCE has been exposed...

guys remember it's just overdramtic pmsy dixie.

save yourselves the waste of time and just realize he doesn't know how to read properly.

that is all.

No. You are being subjective and I might just go out on a limb and say play favorites with who you decide to chastise. As long as they subscribe to your agenda and way of thinking, they get the pass.

That you don't like Dixie and others is the proverbial understatement of the century, but you deviate so far from the definition of "Forum Moderator" it borders on ridiculous at times.

Here is a snippet of just one article I found on forum moderators.

Some of the most powerful people on the Internet are commoners like you and me. The effective moderation of a successful forum takes a great amount of discipline and ability, but yields great success and respect. It’s very likely that these superusers are lingering in forums and communities across the Web. They might not be moderators in every case, but chances are they’re highly respected individuals with a lot of influence in the communities in which they participate.

A big part of my personal success in this area comes from my passion for quality leadership. Leadership takes many forms and manifests itself in various ways in our lives. Individuals like Winston Churchill and Rudy Giuliani manifested leadership in their times of crisis. Leadership is influence, and these were among the most influential people of their times.

Leadership Is Influence
If you moderate a community, large or small, or you’re charged with the task of administering one, let this article be a challenge to you. A position does not make you a leader. Influence makes you a leader.

The fact is that, as a moderator, you have a unique gift called leadership. This gift has given you the opportunity to work as a moderator on whatever board you’re part of. But leadership is simply a raw force -- an energy -- that drives us and influences others. It’s like fire, having the potential to both bring reward and cause harm. It depends on the person who wields that leadership, and the maturity with which he or she uses it.

Just because it states something in the rules, doesn't mean it's productive towards the theme of what you are trying to establish. It's not a shit conniption to have had this brought up, and it shouldnt be hard to see that the rules need to evolve. Don't take it as a stab to your ego if people feel the rules aren't sufficient, or don't understand them completely. I get what the purpose of the board was, and it's obvious there are things that need to be done to get where it needs to be. There are a number of posters here that will do what they can to get attention, and go right up to that line to where it follows the rules, but not cross the line. We have the ability to name-call and tear someone a new ass in a flame war all over this board, but my impression is that the 'Above Plain Politics' board is designed to be for more serious debate without all the bullshit. The rules need tweaked so that it is clear where you want it to go. Don't expect people here to just play nice, there is way too much history and everyone loves a piss-match. Serious threads go no where, and stupid threads like Obama's birth certificate rise to the top.

Retard.

It was Grind who gave your good friend Dumb Cluck a shed load of points just for a laugh, I didn't see you complaining about that.

Now excuse the fuck outta me Grind and Damo, but my understanding of this was, the ABOVE board would be for civil debate and conversation without the name calling and flames. The War Zone is where people can be called "idiot" and "retard" and "crybaby" and threads can turn into flame wars. You should have just been honest about it and said up front, the new board wasn't any different than the old board.

See, what I think you want to do is have a board where you can pick and chose who to ban and for what. If I were to go on APP and call people names and flame, I would be banned, and you would point to your stupid "rules" and claim it is justified. But since you guys obviously like having your ego stroked by people like Waterhead and ib1, you aren't going to enforce those rules on them. Basically, you fucking lied to people, and that is what has me so angry about this. Either give us what you promised, or stop blowing smoke up our ass about wanting something you really don't want.

Dixie, who has been banned for calling anyone else a name?

Asshat was banned for calling us Jews.

No one else has been banned.

You basically made all this shit up because you're a little girl and you have no nads.

Not all quick "petty insults" are trash talk. Again, please have some patience, we don't know how this will all look when it is finalized, this is a trial run and an attempt to give some people a new choice.

I saw that, and glad you did the right thing. Good job....

Also, I would suggest some sort of system to prevent it in the future so you don't have to constantly watch the board. Something like a suspension policy from that board. Rather than a total ban, after three threads of obvious excessive name calling, issue a warning. After a warning has been issued, a 5th thread with excessive name calling warrants a suspension. I'm not a big fan of cencorship but I think providing the option to people was a good call, it's just going to be a pain for you guys to monitor, so you may need to establish a good rule set to prevent abuse. I like that there are multiple boards for people, and if you want or need any more help, I'm willing to on my limited time.

I'm not for censorship either, but too often here one posts just once and some will just personally attack or call names. I don't find it conducive to 'debating.' Debate should argue ideas of the topic, not attack perceived ideology or the poster personally. I'd hoped that what would be the basic guidelines of APP. If not? Why bother with it?

One thing I think would help and have seen others suggesting the same: Forum ban those that just flame and do personal attacks. They still have the whole rest of the board to operate on.

That's the whole thing, there is no "new choice" at all. This "new" board is really no different than the old board, if you are going to allow insults and name calling which have nothing to do with the debate. Either put up the board you promised, or don't bother with the idea. It's an insult to our intelligence to claim you want a board that is "above the fray" but then, allow "the fray" to continue as usual. It's nothing more than SR-like bullshit, and you know what I mean.

I think you need to chill now Dixie, Damo/Grind edited the posts, and suspended a few users already. They are working out a system and are taking suggestions seriously.

Seriously, what I really want is a place where the first answer isn't always, "Well you are a republican so you are teh evils" when I talk about a subject like my opinion on what happens to a "leader" when he appears to be hiding the small stuff with a vigor that should be saved for far more important things. However, I believe that it is unlikely to happen so I'm settling for a compromise. Giving people an option, while still allowing the more laissez-fair board to be just what it was.

Tom I know it's a favorite past time of yours, but I don't pay attention much to the point system here. I recognize when I get one, and I return favor whenever possible, but I sure as shit am not counting them up.

If that's how you define your worth and the worth of others... Well buddy then you need a new hobby.

As far as I can see, no one has edited the posts calling me "retarded" repeatedly in that thread, and both Grind and Damo have said that this isn't going to result in a ban. They should have "worked out a system" before telling us about the system and putting it online. Claiming they are "working out the kinks" is nothing more than a face-saving cop out. There are no "kinks" to work out, they either WANT a board free of flaming and insults, or they DON'T... I think it's obvious they DON'T! And I am fine with that, just be honest about it and let's move on. Don't blow smoke up my ass and pretend you are trying to "do something" when that simply isn't the case.

This.

If you have suggestions, we're definitely open to them.

No you're not, stop lying to people. You want to PRETEND you care about what we think, just like you want to PRETEND you are putting up a board free of insults and flames. In truth, it's just more of the same self-aggrandizing bullshit we've come to know and love from you and Grind.

dixie, now you are just lying... I deleted about ten instances of it last night, and informed you I did so. If there are any I missed, just let me know

Grind told me he thinks that he and Damo can get some coverage on other blogs about this new forum. Like, sort of doing some sort of email blast/press release about it? They think it will get picked up and get them more members, plus, because it's pretty experimental, and a lot of blogs publish a lot of articles and host discussions about how to handle violent and profane posters, they think that it'll get them some personal coverage and benefits.

I'm not sure, but it might. It's an interesting concept. I don't see what the big deal is Dixie.

We could all band together and give him a bunch of pos rep so he'll feel loved?
