So super-storm Florence killed 37 but the press says Maria killed 3000 in puerto ric

If roads are closed to hospitals because of a flood caused by a storm. and if the road was open but for the storm the person would live, the storm caused the death.

Not that complicated, TDAK, but certainly not as cut and dried as you would like.

"The press obviously lied about Maria" TK #1
This lead, this topic is a cesspool of ignorance.

First of all, the 3K figure didn't appear in prominent media until most of a year had elapsed.
It has not been most of a year since Flo.

Second, in the Carolina's we have building codes.
@PR if there are any such codes they're weaker, widely disregarded, with little if any enforcement.

Third,
this assertion conflates the message with the messenger.
Such impact assessments take time, particularly within storm-ravaged infrastructure. And when done properly such assessments are methodical, and as accurate as practical.
Even if wrong by an order of magnitude, it's still alarming.
"PR is a backward $#@!hole territory" TK #1
Interesting euphemism for tropical paradise.
"This is an island. Surrounded by water. Big water. Ocean water." U.S. President Trump, Washington DC 17/09/29 11:42 (/ MSNBC) commenting on Puerto Rico in context of the difficulty of providing U.S. federal disaster relief following hurricane Maria

I still can't believe they can't get their heads around, a small number dying in the hurricane, and the rest dying from the after effects, without needed assistance. One town was cut off from the rest of the island, because it's only outlet was completely destroyed. Texty obviously doesn't know the after effects of a hurricane. It was an island that was ravaged. No power, or clean water, sewage escaped into the rivers, when the flooding overflowed the system, most food destroyed. What the fuck does Texty expect if essentials don't start pouring in. It's was almost like on big deserted island, full of millions. The poorer neighborhoods never have recovered, and even some of the higher up ones had issues.

Hello Jade,

He can't stand those Americans because they speak Spanish.

He doesn't value them because they can't vote.

Hello Text Drivers are Killers,

Ricans can't vote because they DON'T PAY FEDERAL INCOME TAX. Why won't you libs mention that?

I have no problem discussing that. I didn't mention it because I am not going to make your points for you.

I also question your reasoning.

I do not dispute that Puerto Ricans are not permitted to vote in presidential elections, but I do question the reasoning.

Do you have a source to back up your contention that the reason is because they are not required to pay federal income tax?

The fact that they are not required to pay federal income tax is also linked to something which you failed to mention, namely that they do not qualify for federal welfare, either.

And more importantly, neither does the federal government allocate any pork expenditures to Puerto Rico. That is because, though they have representation, their powerless representatives cannot vote.

It should also be noted that even if they were required to pay income tax, most of them are so poor they would be below the poverty threshhold, and would not have to pay anything anyway.

Please state something, anything, that the American press has lied about, which has not been corrected.

The main stream media is interested in accuracy, because their reputation depends upon it.

Any source will correct errors if and when they are pointed out to them.

Hello Text Drivers are Killers,

If you don't believe the news you're just making up your own narrative.

Or, worse yet, taking it from the very person who is oppressing you.

Can you not see the danger of accepting all your information from the same individual who also creates much of it?

PoliTaker, you're wasting your time trying to get through to TDaK.
Some people would rather believe a lie that makes them feel comfortable than the truth.
Methinks TDaK falls into that category.

But, but, Trump is God!!!

Hell - PR is just a tiny territory with 3 million people while the carolinas and virginia have ten times that !! The press obviously lied about Maria in the hopes of making trump look bad. They can't lie much about florence since they'd have to back it with facts and they can't do that. But PR is a backward shithole territory and the american press is free to lie all they want.

You are one sick racist mother fucker not worth the air you breath, and it is free.
