We have rules at graduation ceremonies about celebrating and standing for the graduates...
For quite some time, parents tried to resist, and ignore...if that happened, the ceremony was paused until everyone listens to the reasoning behind the rules...
(For example, you don't get up and leave until everyone has received their diploma...you just don't...;) )
