Soy foods 'reduce sperm numbers'

Soy products contain chemicals mimicking female hormones

A regular diet of even modest amounts of food containing soy may halve sperm concentrations, suggest scientists.

The study, published in the journal Human Reproduction, found 41 million fewer sperm per millilitre of semen after just one portion every two days.

The authors said plant oestrogens in foods such as tofu, soy mince or milk may interfere with hormonal signals.

40 million sperm is about as likely to impregnate someone as 80 million.
It's about half as likely. The lower the sperm count the tougher it is to impregnate somebody. Ever hear of a condition called a "low sperm count"? Look it up, google is your friend.

There's also a component in soy that inhibits calcium absorption. This is especially important for those of us who need all the bone mass we have!

Soy appears to be bad for people. What a shocker. Another "good" thing turned bad, like vegetable oil used to cook fries....

I know. I always thought it tasted like crap anyway. Give me a good glass of milk any day.
Definitely. Cows milk is delicious. Spending a bit more for organic, if you can be assured it has no hormones, even better.

Half as likely? It shouldn't work like that. They all seek out the egg and they are all very likely to find it.

It does work like that. when it comes to the opposite sex sperm are just as stupid as the person that produces them.

I seriously doubt there's a linear ratio between number of sperm and likelihood of pregnancy. That would be absurd.

There absolutely is a connection there. The woman's environment is designed to fight as many of the sperm as it can. That's why sperm count and timing is so important (along with motility and morphism). Some sperm survive better in a more acidic environment, whereas some need the alkaline.

It does work like that. Again, use google. If you have half of a regular sperm count you are very likely going to have trouble impregnating somebody.
