Spirit Airlines pokes fun at Obama selfie controversy




Spirit Airlines is at it again, riffing off a current event for one of its promotional ads, this time using the Obama selfie flap to good advantage.


While in South Africa to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela at the official memorial service last Tuesday, President Barack Obama captured a moment with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, seated near him in the stands at FNB Stadium.


Taking selfies is a new trend, thanks to improved cameras on smartphones these days. Oxford Dictionary even named "selfie" the international word of the year 2013. In Obama’s case, the selfie was controversial in part because it happened at a memorial service and because two photos of the incident that popped up online seemed to show Michelle Obama annoyed at her husband's actions.

I love how democrats always make excuses for their disrespectful leaders. Clinton was openly cheating on his wife and democrats made excuses for him. Obama flirts with a milf at a funeral and it's not disrespectful, it's honoring the dead! We just don't understand! Funerals are joyous occasions in Africa where men flirt with hot women and happy wives wear frowns to show their joy.

Speaking of obscene, Spirit Airlines is notorious for its suggestive and demeaning ad campaigns -- to the point where even its own employees finally had to speak out. (The last straw was Spirit's recent move to slap Bud Light advertisements on flight attendant aprons.)

2006: Hunt for Hoffa. The ad featured “an online video game in which players tried to find the body of the slain labor leader.” It was pulled within hours of its debut.

2007: Many Islands, Low Fares (MILF). Yep. “The ad featured the acronym “MILF,” superimposed on a map that showed the outline of a reclining woman.”

2008: Offshore Drilling. Featured a bikini-clad female swimmer juxtaposed against an oil derrick, proclaiming “We Believe in Offshore Drilling.”

2009: Eye of the Tiger: The ad featured a Tiger Woods doppelganger behind the wheel of a wrecked SUV, with the copy promising $9 fares.

2010: Check Out the Oil on Our Beaches. This featured bottles of sunscreen on a beach, with printing in yellow and green. It came out just after the BP oil spill.

They could have one with Obama saying "If you like it, you can keep it" and then underneath they could put - At least we don't lie to you, about our air fares.

Why do you consider it flirting? I don't remember anyone saying bush was flirting with Angela Merkel when he gave her a shoulder rub.
