Stephen Colbert Announces Bid for Presidency... Sorta

It was terrific! Exciting! A moment of true statesmanshippie grandeur! I found Uncle Sam peddle the rickshaw particularly moving.

Since south carolina's not a fusion voting state, he couldn't appear on the ballot as Democrat/Republican. But I doubt they put anything into law preventing the same candidate from running into two primaries; they probably just assumed it wouldn't happen. I'm no legal expert on the subject, now, but he does have the required signatures, and he probably talked it over with somebody who knew something about law before announcing his joke.

Would they actually let him stand in both party primaries even if he were serious?

Colbert is a hardcore registered Democrat, he would run as one for sure. Surely you must have noticed that he just tries to make fun of Republicans, Conservatives and the free market?

No, I haven't noticed that. I always find it very difficult to tell the difference between a true believer speaking on free market absolutism, and a comedian spoofing them.

I think it has something to do with the Uncle Miltie crowd being self-parodying little caricatures of themselves.

It's very difficult to make fun of anyone else.

Really? I find it pretty easy. Rush and other rightwing entertainers have done it for decades.
He could if he wanted to but he wouldn't ever bother because he's a registered Democrat and an obvious Liberal with his snides against the free market/

Kindly name a time Colbert made fun of a Liberal issue.
I certainly admit that unlike guys like Rush or Franken; Colbert and Jon Stewart are much more stealthy in pretending to be "just" a comedian, but it's fairly obvious which way they lean by their material.

Unlike the majority of conservatives Dano, I have a job, the government doesn't send me a check every month, paying me in effect to bash it on the internets. So I am rarely up late enough to watch Colbert, but the times I have seen him...he sounded just like any other right winger to me. I thought it might be a send-up, but then, for years I was convinced that Coulter was a send-up...and it ended up that much to my mortification, she's real.

So I gave up trying to make those calls.

I said Liberal, not Democrat.
1. Byrd's voting record is that of a moderate and not that Liberal.

2. It is a Liberal position to advocate more restrictions on freedom while driving, be it banning cell phones or smoking. I'm not surprised he went after a Democrat for that, I'm sure he'd take his shots at Zell Miller too, that doesn't make him fair or independent.

He's a fucking parody. All he does is parody right-wing talking heads like Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity and in so doing "criticizes" left-wingers. That's his schtick.

Unlike the majority of conservatives Dano, I have a job,
Oh please, your job is coming on here from 9 to 5 posting Liberal BS and you know it.
And last I checked the highest unemployment and welfare check rates were in Liberal Democrat run inner cities. See for yourself:
Take a hard look at the unemployment rate of inner cities, you will VERY clearly see that the unemployment rate in inner cities is FAR higher than the rest of the country:
http://stats.bls.gov/opub/gp/pdf/gp02_24.pdf

The relevant "inner city" data is near the bottom, so look at 'Chicago central city' near the bottom of the page, not 'Chicago PMSA' near the top.

Examples:
Chicago - 9.8% unemployment
Detroit - 12.3% unemployment
Houston - 7.1% unemployment
Milwaukee - 9.2% unemployment
New York - 7.9% unemployment
Philadelphia - 10.2% unemployment
San Francisco - 7.5% unemployment

In almost all cases, the inner cities in America show unemployment way higher than their state as a whole. Now who runs inner cities, who has been running them for decades? All Democrats, there is virtually no Republicans in government in inner cities, it votes in huge percentages for Democrats. Sure there is the occasional big city Republican like Guillani, but he is a big rarity.
So, Democrats have given them free government goodies, high taxes, lax on crime, high regulations....all the things Liberal Democrats like to do and think solve our problems.

The result shows in the numbers, businesses are not going to stick around in higher tax, higher regulation environments, they will leave and jobs will be lost specifically because of bad business environments brought on by Liberal policies.

Not that we should need numbers to see the obvious, just walk into any Democrat run inner city like Detroit or Chicago, the blight is obvious, the despair omnipresent.
And it's a spiral, as more become dependant on government, less are interested in voting for tax cuts or less government that would improve their situation. They are trapped in dependance and THAT more than anything is why we should always fight for a less government view.

the government doesn't send me a check every month, paying me in effect to bash it on the internets.
No instead you take cash from companies to come on here everyday and bash corporations and advocate more taxes and regulations on them.
What a silly point for you to try, too easily smoked.

He lampoons right-wingers, you must be incredibly slow if you can't pick that up and I seriously doubt that Ann Coulter is/was a registered Dem.

He did it so well the right thought he was on their side for months and would talk to him and make total asses out of themselves. That is why they invited him to do the press core dinner.

Yes he makes fun of the Neo Con idiots who are destroying America.

You're no fun, Dano. Why can't you hate gays and want to kill muslims?
