do you think garrity rights are basic? because civilians like you and I do not have them. Do you believe that qualified immunity is a basic protection? because you and I do not have them.

maybe you've never been the victim of an overzealous police officer, or officers, or agency.............maybe you've never been targeted for your looks, or what you drive.

I can tell you that police officers are probably the most legally protected group out there that have near immunity from their actions while wearing a badge. For you to call them 'basic' protections indicates an ignorance unheard of from you before.

There are some cops who have cost cities several millions in lawsuits. There are abusive cops who step over the line, way over. The people have to be protected from them. There should be strong civilian oversight. They should bear part of the fiscal responsibility when they lose a suit.
