Putin assumed that Ukraine would fold, and that Russian troops would be greeted as liberators. The reality is Ukrainians were willing to fight, and were given the resources by Biden to fight.
They never intended to take Kiev, that was a bluff, it was obvious.

If Russia is successful in making Ukraine a land locked country then they are fucked....they can only ship about 10% of their production by rail. Taiwan has been independent for 70+ years. They are not going to just surrender because of a blockade.
Taiwan has invested a lot of money and technology into anti-ship missiles. China would pay an extreme price for trying to take full control over the area around Taiwan.
