Student-loan payment may soon come directly out of your paycheck

Joe Biden - "Time to put Trump in the bullseye."
Most of these liars can pay their student loans but as long as there is talk of a bailout they claim their debt is crushing them!! So i support this and remind people "never buy anything on credit."

feb 15 2019 Your student loans could be automatically deducted from your paycheck each month if a new proposal from Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander Opens a New Window. becomes law.

In a speech that he delivered earlier this month, Alexander, R-Tenn., laid out a broad blueprint to completely overhaul the system for financial aid and student loan repayments Opens a New Window. -- a plan that, if approved, could ultimately affect up to 40 million borrowers, who owe a collective $1.5 trillion in student loan debt.

Alexander, who chairs the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Opens a New Window. , proposed a repayment plan based on a borrower’s income. It would never require the borrower to make payments of more than 10 percent on their income, he said.

“And it makes sure if there were no money earned, there would be no money owed,” Alexander said. “And that would not reflect negatively on a borrower’s credit.”

People should be accountable for their decisions. Majoring in basket weaving while taking out 6 figures in student loans is a stupid thing to do and no one else should have to pay for these people's stupid decision. Pay up, snowflakes.

Is the Earth sitting still? I mean, did we finally find something that we can partially agree on?

Shockingly as it may be, I agree with you that if you get behind on your Federally granted and approved Student Loan Payments, then just like in the case of collecting IRS repayments, or child support payments and obligations, it should be mandatory that it be taken out of your paychecks.

But, I disagree that people should not use credit- as it is necessary to acquiring costly secondary educations for most working class families in America.

Law, doctorate, and engineering degrees are going to cost more money than most any average young adult or teenager is going to have.

I especially liked the following: " It’s unclear exactly what the accountability program would be, but he said it should lower the cost of tuition for some programs, while discouraging schools from offering programs “that are not worth it to students.”

“All three of these proposals should help students afford college and make sure that the degree they earn is worth the time and money they pay for it,” he said.

We probably all know people with degrees which have nothing to do with how they earn their livings. It's a shame that many of them will never get out from under their debts for useless degrees from "for profit" online schools.

BS - college is not that expensive. Tuition at state schools is usually around $7,000 a year. Room and board does not count as a college expense since you will pay that whether you go to college or not. The problem is these dummies that insist on private colleges or out-of-state schools.

Yes indeed. Most of these debtors studied easy useless crap so they could party for 4 years. I might support a bailout for students who got a degree in STEM fields.

Nothing wrong with this plan.....if you are a republicunt.

Well most republicunts that go to college come from filthy rich families who can pay upfront.

And as for the poor republicunts - well they are too busy inbreeding to go to college so it won't affect them.

Tuition and fees vary from college to college. The average cost of tuition and fees for the 2018–2019 school year was $35,676 at private colleges, $9,716 for state residents at public colleges and $21,629 for out-of-state students at state schools, according to data reported to U.S. News in an annual survey.

Working night shifts to pay for school usually limits students to working minimum wage jobs. That is why I suggested a minimum wage increase would help!

And why do we limit our children to 12 years of public school? We could do more, like add a couple of more years of Community College.

Imagine if the liberals get their way and force taxpayers to fund college for everyone. How many useless degrees would be pumped out, how much more would the cost of higher education be inflated and how many deadbeats would party for 2 or 3 years and drop out. It's insane.

Yes indeed. That's why college should teach STEM only. Then the dummie liberals who can't even add up a column of numbers would not go to college. Can you imagine a liberal learning engineering.?

Imagine how much we would save if we got rid of teachers? Once a kid knows how to read, he should be able to teach himself from books or the net.

Not that expensive?

The Student Loan Debt bubble is now larger than the subprime bubble that tanked the economy 12 years ago.

Forgiving all student loan debt would be an instant economic stimulus.

$7,000 a year is more than most middle-class families can afford, and likely means that those families have to take out loans.

Something like 40% of American households cannot cover a $400 emergency; so from where and how can they afford tuition at $7K/yr if they can't even have $400 on hand for an emergency?
