People argue things were much better in the '50's and '60's economically and there was less inequality. We were on the gold standard during that time. Maybe we need to bring that back.
On that we can agree.

And government taxing and spending as a percentage of the GDP were lower during that period. Higher tax rates (91%) resulted in less revenue as a % of GDP.
I would never go back to those days. Many things were not much cheaper. A family could barely afford a TV while today lower prices allow us to have 2-4 per home with color and larger screens. 25 cents for a gallon of gas in 1950 would be $2.62 today (a little more than I now pay).
You're still asking for a "solution" to "resolve" the issue. I don't claim to have one of those.
But it would improve things if we stop loading the tax cuts to primarily benefit those who already have more money than they can spend.
Target the tax cuts to working and middle class families who are struggling to get by.
It won't solve everyone's problems, but it will at least make things easier and more equitable.
As far as people who don't pay taxes to begin with because they don't make enough, use the higher taxes paid by the wealthy and super wealthy to fund govt assistance programs.
That is the best anyone can expect. Nobody is claiming it will make life perfect and wonderful for everyone, but at least we can say we're doing the best we can rather than heaping more wealth upon those who don't need more.
And don't ask me who am I to decide who needs how much. If someone is worth millions of dollars and/or has millions in annual income, we all know that person has more than enough to live in luxury.
Start targeting tax cuts to the people who actually need more money to live, not those who have more than enough.
Wow, I really thought I would get a more thoughtful response than that. I mistakenly thought that you gave this matter a great deal of analysis. I have always been told how smart you liberals are. It would seem you are long on complaints and short on solutions.
But, thanks for trying
1.) I still fail to see how you target federal income tax cuts to people who pay no federal income tax. I mean we already do what with the Earned Income Tax credit which is essentially welfare and a mistake of Reagan's
We already spend hundreds of billions on welfare programs
Yet the inequality still exists.
2.) Tell me what is that exact number where you think someone has enough money? And we can focus on net worth not income. Is it $1 million? $2 million? $2 billion?
1.) You're just repeating the same false misrepresentation you made before. I never said anything about cutting taxes for people who don't pay taxes. Middle class working individuals and families pay taxes. If you want to cut taxes, cut theirs. Let the wealthy and super wealthy continue to pay at their pre-tax cut levels, or slightly increase it.
2.) The IRS has all that figured out. It's not my responsibility to arrive at a formula for determining what constitutes independent wealth. But I know it exists and that it can be determined by govt accountants.
You can cut taxes for people in the middle class but ultimately it's going to end up with a good majority of Americans not paying federal income taxes.
Top 1 percent take record share of U.S. income
The top 10 percent of earners took more than half of the country’s total income in 2012, the highest level recorded since the government began collecting such data a century ago, according to an updated study by prominent economists Emmanuel Saez and Thomas Piketty.
The top 1 percent took more than one-fifth of the income earned by Americans, one of the highest levels since 1913, when the government instituted an income tax.

Why? I suggested to cut them, not eliminate them.
Meanwhile, let the wealthy and super wealthy pay a higher rate.
They can easily afford it.

47% is the number today I believe who don't pay federal income taxes? (outside of payroll taxes) As we continue lowering taxes up the ladder more and more people will fall into the group that doesn't pay. Not saying it's a bad thing but there's not a lot of room for margin when you start lowering taxes until they don't pay any.
Regarding #2, you made the statement that you think there is a point where people have enough. Haven't you given it any kind of thought? You just want the IRS to tell you and you will take the Trump IRS word for it?
The ground seems to be shifting. I am getting the sense you don't really care about income inequality after all. You just like to complain about it.
Here is a little present for your efforts

Actually, the tax rate needs to be set by Congress and signed into law, but not by Trump, because he's the greedy asshole who slashed taxes for himself and his rich buddies to begin with.
Obviously, we need to remove Trump from office, first.
Hopefully, that might be happening sooner rather than later.
You can get whatever sense you want to. Means nadda to me.
Here's one for yours...![]()
remember your political positions place things and money over humans
