OH, I forgot to mention...in a lot of the country people have not been doing football at the bars either.....which adds a lot of the social aspect of being an NFL fan.....that has got to drive down engagement bigtime as well. There is reason to expect that the NFL took a massive hit this year in their connection with the fans...the other major sports have as well....and they might not be able to win their fans back. All of the sports have in recent years tended to give the fans the finger, the CHA-CHING! might be greatly effected going forwards. I expect that it will be but then again at this point I am so gone I basically wish bankruptcies all around.

I was no football fan. I couldn't give two hoots about football while President Obama was leading us.

But that all changed after Trump took office and began his verbal assault on the NFL. The day Trump said everyone should boycott the NFL was the day I became a fan. I did so on purpose. Now I think it's great. I wonder how many other people did the exact same thing. The NFL seems to get the message too. They are definitely aware of their widely inclusive viewership.

I love all the little messages of equality on the backs of the helmets and in the endzones. That's awesome. It has made me proud to be an NFL fan.

I would like to see other sports adopt that same type of messaging.

We should have that kind of messaging all throughout society. Everywhere you look there should be a little subtle reminder that racism and hatred are wrong.

The extremists have gotten far too much exposure through the internet and social media. It's about time society sends a loud and clear message about what the vast majority of us think.

Racism is wrong.

Hatred is wrong.

I could hardly be more pleased with the NFL for embracing that message.

The only thing that's missing is Colin Kaepernick on the field.

Trump desperately tried to CANCEL the NFL last year as he attacked players who took a knee to protest racial injustices, specifically racist murders of African-Americans by police. Trump claimed the league would fold and go broke, and he did everything he could to make that happen. He attacked the protests, proclaimed that kneeling players were “unpatriotic””and his band of goons followed his attempt to CANCEL the league, quick to point out lower attendance and gleefully hoping the NFL would go under.

Fast forward to today and trump has been kicked out of office in a humiliating defeat losing the election by over 7 million votes and he was impeached again solidified his place in history as the worst president to ever enter the Oval Office. Now he is facing even further disgrace for his traitorous role in the attack on the Capitol and American democracy, but it doesn’t stop there as he will soon be facing criminal charges for tax evasion and other criminal behavior along with his criminal family.

His supporters have proven themselves to be absolute morons and the true traitors with many of them behind bars and on their way to prison With long sentences. Many politicians who supported him find themselves ostracized and rejected, leaving trump’s party broken and in the wilderness, no longer able to hide behind the facade of “patriotism.”ever again.

I don't read posts from those who have been impolite to me. But I don't have to. I used to have nobody on Ignore, was proud of being able to say that. Then one day I wondered just what that was worth. I decided not as much as the serenity of filtering out all the garbage. Tried doing just that as an experiment, liked it so much I decided to make that policy permanent.

As far as 'cancel culture' goes, a good come-back to that is that Trump tried his best to 'cancel' the NFL. Yup. You guessed it. Failed.

What's interesting is the multiple levels at play here when you peal back the onion. On one hand you have the folks you referenced, who Trump/Pence rather cynically appealed to, who said they wouldn't watch the NFL anymore because of players kneeling. But there is another side who choose to boycott the NFL for (their claim) the league blackballing Kaepernick. And there has been a lot written about the league and it's owners being old, white and conservative who largely backed Trump and got very wealthy off the effort of largely black players while not hiring black coaches or front office people.

So you have some folks on the right boycotting a league run by old, white conservative (racist) men and people on the left supporting a league run by old, white conservative (racist) men. Interesting dynamics.
