Everyone of these fucks involved should be in prison.

According to the lawsuit, about 9 p.m. June 15, Vega came to Guardi's and ordered pasta salad. When Mendez walked into the cooler to get the food, Vega asked Mendez's wife if she wanted to see Vega scare her husband. She said "no," according to court documents.

Then, Vega allegedly pointed the gun at Mendez's head and fired, causing the prongs to stick to Mendez's right temple and collarbone. Mendez went into convulsions and later became unconscious. He also bit off a piece of his tongue, the lawsuit said.

Vega is accused of immediately removing the Taser prongs, which caused Mendez to bleed profusely. Vega then called for back-up, and a supervisor and two detectives showed up and confiscated bloody towels, Mendez's bloody glasses, the Taser prongs and the video surveillance equipment in the restaurant, the lawsuit claims

I don't get this. It's a law suit. I assume the cop is now an ex-cop and that a criminal charge has been laid against the ex-cop.

If I were that cop's supervisor I would beat them savagely with a big stick with nails in it before bringing them up to the Chief to be sacked on the spot.

Seriously, guys. Stop getting so violently. All that happened was that somebody (severely) underestimated the power of a weapon that their often told is completely nonlethal and harmless. It happens a lot. It's more a problem with the police chiefs not properly informing them about it than anything else.

I have to admit to have never using a taser. I have used a baton and I have used my fists but I haven't used OC spray (not available to me back then). I wouldn't have rushed up to this poor bastard and biffed him with my fists or hit him with a baton, suggesting that was a joke.

Okay, we can't shoot this idiot. But if this idiot is still on the job then I would be very disappointed.

Are you serious? There is also the fact that they covered it up.

...

Yeah. That's because it reflects badly on their department that they hand out tasers without giving proper training in them.

Who gives a fuck what there rationale is, they committed a crime and should be punished for it.

You have to be joking? This is such apologetic horseshit! Cops are fucking stupid sure, but anyone out of their teens knows that this is not an appropriate use.

Yeah RS. I said "He shouldn't be sent to prison at all!"

You can quote me on it.

But seriously, out of all the criminals out there, the people I want in prison least are those that tried to pull a prank that went off bad. There's no chance of re-offense, seriously. It's not like we're dealing with a cold-hearted criminal here. I don't really see the point RS.

And, actually, the rationale does matter. I'm sure you're unfamialar with the concept of a a "mitigating factor", being a bloodthirsty American who wants everyone who ever did anything ever thrown in jail for life, but it used to be part of our indeterminate sentencing scheme that allowed judges to give out smaller than the maximum penalties whenever a crime had special circumstances that made the action not as serious. Usually, this involved 'the rationale".

I know. Shocking concept, isn't it. The world must of exploded in anarchy.

No. Before a cop can carry one he has to be tazed himself. Its part of the training for use and part of teaching them to respect the weapon.

The tasering was bad judgment and should result in a charge. But the cover up of the crime is the far bigger offense.

A mitigating factor is judged by a court. Why are they not brought before one?

Let me go pull such a practical joke on an officer and see how many bullets are pumped into me. Cops should not be above the law.

And bloodthirsty.... you're the so called libertarian who believes drug users should be put in lockdown 24/7 until they behave like good little dogs.
