Tasers are Funny

The tasering was bad judgment and should result in a charge. But the cover up of the crime is the far bigger offense.

I don't know. I think knocking someone out and piercing their temple has to at least come in at a close second.

But in response to Water's laissez-faire attitude about the situation:

They should be punished to the upmost. This guy was entrusted with upholding the letter the of the law and based on all of his actions from the start to finish of this article, he usurped and broken way too many for it to simply be shrupped off and given a slap on the wrist. Someone was severely injured and he covered it up. Not to mention the apparent lack of appreciation this officer has for a very dangerous weapon. I hope they give him the maximum sentence for everything he's charged with.

A mitigating factor is judged by a court. Why are they not brought before one?

Let me go pull such a practical joke on an officer and see how many bullets are pumped into me. Cops should not be above the law.

And bloodthirsty.... you're the so called libertarian who believes drug users should be put in lockdown 24/7 until they behave like good little dogs.

Yeah. I believe in prison.

But I think I've made it abundantly clear that I'm for decriminalization of drug use and for the legalization of marijunia.

It was just a bad decision LadyT. Maybe extremely, extremely stupid, but not exactly cold-hearted.

The thing that was bad in this case was the coverup.

Moreover, you are the one promoting mandatory minimums. I have no bloodthirst whatsoever, but unlike you I don't believe agents of the state should be allowed do whatever they wish.

Where have a ever proposed mandatory minimums? Haven't I been, like, the foremost advocate here of abolishing mandatory minimums?

No $hit. But I expect better of people that are allegedly trained in how to operate such a deadly weapon. Its his fvkcing job!! He's not some clown in the street that just picked it up and was playing around with it. He's been given authority to use tasers on the civilian public! This should not be tolerated.

No legal expert, but it should result in a felony assault charge, at the minimum.

But in response to Water's laissez-faire attitude about the situation:

lol... laissez-faire my ass. His attitude is a statist one.

Well, first off, LadyT, my initial responses were in aimed towards people who were saying that we should just go and execute him. I'm not saying that he shouldn't be given jail time. But the tasering isn't the worst thing that happened here.

It's not like we're dealing with a cold-hearted criminal here. I don't really see the point RS.

That sounds pretty freakin' laissez-faire to me.

You argued in another thread that drug use was a crime and therefore concerns over the welfare of those users sent to prison is not your priority.

Where have a ever proposed mandatory minimums? Haven't I been, like, the foremost advocate here of abolishing mandatory minimums?

You brought it up for sex crimes just yesterday.

What?

Yeah, I mean, I proposed mandatory minimums for child molesters and other such exetreme crimes, but even then I eventually backed down and said we should make the harsh punishments just one of the options on the table for the judge.

I'm not going to argue something so subjective as "tasering isn't the worst thing htat happened here", but I will say that there seems to be an epidemic of irresponsible tasering of civilians across the country and policemen are not getting punished. Its dangerous to let this type of thing go unpunished.

I didn't mean that it should go unpunished.

I was just thinking, well, killing him and dragging his dead body across the city was on the excessive side. :dunno:

It is still a felony assault. Any mitigating factor concerning it being just a joke should be tossed when considering the coverup.

This crime is nearly abhorent as murder. If cops cannot be trusted then we can have no faith in our legal system at all.

I know that does not concern you much, so long as you get to treat the inmates like lab rats, but it is pretty damaging for most of us who respect freedom and liberty.

In you thread about rewarding inmates by letting them out of their cell for displaying obedience. SHould I dig it up?

Mandatory minimums are always a bad idea.

I couldn't find a smilie that interpreted "sardonic".
