A state tourism board gave preliminary approval Monday for a religious theme park to apply for up to $37 million in state tax incentives.

The Kentucky Tourism Development Finance Authority also gave final approval Monday for the Kentucky Speedway to collect up to $20.5 million in sales tax breaks over 10 years. The deal will allow the Northern Kentucky race track to recoup up to 25 percent of the $82 million it is spending on an expansion that will allow it to host a NASCAR Sprint Cup race.

The Kentucky Speedway is slated to hold its first NASCAR Sprint Cup race in July.

The six-member board voted unanimously to approve the incentives for the Kentucky Speedway in Gallatin County
and to give preliminary approval to the Ark Encounter park in Grant County. The centerpiece of the Ark Encounter park will be a 500-foot-by-75-foot wooden ark, which is billed as a replica of the biblical Noah's Ark. The proposed project has garnered national and international attention, with critics questioning whether granting state tax incentives to the project would violate laws separating church and state.

Hmmm, sounds like a bad Steve Carell movie.
Or is that redundant?

Are they also going to have Jesus riding dinosaurs?

If they're going to give these yahoos $37M to build an ark,
Perkel ought to get $37M to build his Church of Reality.

Well, if you're going to needlessly spunk money on something pointless it may as well be on a massive wooden boat.

It does look a bit sad parked next to that tiny pond though.

What I want to see is two of every single animal, live size, on this monstrosity when it is done. Show me how Noah got 2 of EVERY species on board.

Are you unaware of the mathematical principle that the outside is not necessarily larger than the inside? A standard tesseract (a 4 dimensional cube projected into three dimensions) is one example. Maybe Noah's Ark was another, more "practical" application.....

I don't recall adultery being mentioned....

The story tells of God punishing all the sinful people, and Noah was the only "good" man on earth.

Of course, where the rest of the water came from is not mentioned, since there is not enough water on earth to submerge the entire planet.

But an amusement park, whether religiously themed or not, should satisfy the requirements of the tax breaks. It does create jobs, after all.

There's a current theory that the Arc was really just a DNA "library". That it was alien technology and a bad understanding from early man that brought us that story.

Hey Damo, want to see if we can get a grant or some investors to open a small park adjacent to this one with displays supporting the alien theory?

you don't need to submerge the entire planet.....just the part people were standing on....

Anyway, the story goes Lemnoch returns home to find his wife pregnant, but he hasn't been there for more than a year. So he accuses her of cheating, which she denies. He wants to believe her, but feels she might be playing him somewhere deep inside. He goes to his father and asks what to do, well daddy believes her as he's been around to watch and hasn't seen anybody schtupping his wife... so he goes to Enoch, Lemnoch's grandfather to ask about it. Enoch says that she's been inseminated from "the heavens" and that Lemnoch should accept the child. Thus Noah is born...

The theory is, if you take Lemnoch's wife at face value (personally I think she was schtupping daddy), that aliens were doing a bit of animal husbandry, and since Noah and his descendants were the only ones with the DNA that they wanted to procreate the easiest thing to do is to kill off all the humans... Big flood.

However the aliens still need to eat, humans too so they stack up a bunch of tiny vials with enough DNA to repopulate earth with wildlife and humans of the right DNA stock.

It has also been suggested that when "The World" is referenced, it really means the specific world known to Noah; because most people, of that time, only knew of the surrounding area where they lived.
Therefore; by referencing all the animals of the earth, it could also been seen to refer to the species that they were aware of.
