Tax junk food, drinks to fight child obesity-report

what? so the answer to tax people? shit, why don't we just make all drugs legal and tax them.....

please point out where in the constitution such a tax is permitted....

As for making drugs legal and taxing them... I support that 100%

You realize we have sales taxes on goods right now do you not? You realize we tax gasoline, alcohol, tobacco and use part of the taxes to offset other expenses right?

we have numerous taxes and other government programs that are most likely unconstitutional.....

i just like to occasionally like to ask where in the constitution does the authority allow such things....and virtually everytime.....the "general welfare" clause is used....scotus screwed up ruling on that because it has become the "everything under the sun is permissible" if we say it benefits the general welfare

SF has one of the best grasps of the finances and economy among the members of this board.

I taught him well :D

Actually excise taxes and tariffs were the only legal taxation in the original constitution. Such taxes on drugs are not only constitutional, but still would be even if we repealed the 16th Amendment.

True but states are allowed to tax pretty much whatever they want, except interstate commerce.

you always bitch about others and debating..We already pay enough in taxes..do you think we should work just to pay fucking taxes to the STATE..you're a joke
So are you. That's one thing about you Meme, you're predictable. Most everything is a knee jerk to you. Did you ever consider that the cost to society and individuals from the harm these products cause has a far higher cost then the revenue which would be generated from these taxes? With that being the case why shouldn't taxes be used as behavior modification? It's a win win situation.

Nearly half a million people will die each year from tobaco products. The taxation on tabacoo doesn't even come remotely close to paying that cost but if by using taxation to persuade people to change their behavior and thus ultimately mitigate the damage tobaco and other harmfull products cost us aren't we coming out ahead in the long run? Aren't we all saving money by more people living healthier and productive lives?

That's a win win in my book.

What you're missing is the conflict of interest inherent in the state becoming dependant on revenue from harmful items.

you're actually guaranteeing the perpetuity of their existence when you incent the state to keep them available.

Clearly there's something wrong with conservatives in the head when they think they're entitled to the roads to get to work, the safety standards that keep their food safe, the telephone lines that allow them to go on the internet and rail against paying taxes, and the military that keeps them free but they shouldn't have to contribute to them.

Clearly there was something wrong with the Founding Fathers. They wanted protection from Indians, safe passage on the high seas, and all of the benefits of living under the British Empire - without paying for any of it, cuz taxex are teh evilz!!!

Fucking Torie, just go back home already!!

you turbo-libs are retarded and want to lose in 2010 and 12.
Taxing junk food, JESUS fuck.
We're pissing billions down the toilet in the middle east occupations and our prisons.
We are most certainly not taxed too little.
Behavior modification if you said that to my face I might punch you.

So you need anger management behaviour modification?

Not a sin... a health risk. If we are not going to charge fat out of shape people more for their health care directly, then lets target the crap that helped them get/stay fat. The more obese our society is, the greater the health care risks and the associated costs will be.

or we could let them suffer the consequences of their own actions and watch them die of clogged arteries and heart attacks after their insurance runs out. :clink:

that I do,
Cause you'd get punched to, oh wait I wouldn't punch a 60yr old geezer no matter how dumb.

No you would not. Because you could not.
An old guy in a wheelchair would be legally justified to use deadly force if violently attacked.

either way... as long as it is THEM paying for their own health care... I don't care. Either they pay higher premiums for the choices they make or they pay a tax on the crap they eat/drink.

and in the meantime while your enjoying your irrational rants about commies half a million people will die this year from the worlds most dangerous drug and your solution to the problem is?

And more will die when the progressives are in charge, with their euthanasia, eugenics, and population control agenda.

I pretty much agree with you Topper, UHC is a lost battle. Time to admit that and fight again some other day. We're on the rebound from the banking fiasco/recession so it's time to get back on track about Iraq and Afghanistan before that bites us in the ass too.
