Tax The Rich Enough To Cover The Deficit.

When Teddy Roosevelt installed the inheritance tax, he made the point that fortunes passed through families are different in kind that one made by a person who makes a fortune with a great idea . https://www.nytimes.com/1999/08/09/opinion/teddy-roosevelt-betrayed.html Teddy saw the passing on of fortunes was a threat to the American experiment.

The wealth passed on to an inheritance has already been taxed several times over. The argument that Government is entitled to greater sums of our wealth can only be made in ignorance and a vacuum of historic fact.

I don't understand anyone who wants to place such great faith in Government and bureaucrats that they would give up their guns and liberties to it, other than, they lack a proper education in history and economics.

Hello Celticguy,

The Great Depression and the Great Recession were not average economic events. Treating them as such is flawed thinking.

You have applied an incorrect basis to set up your argument. The Great Recession was far deeper and more serious, and longer lasting, which required a far deeper and more serious, longer lasting recovery.

An incorrect assessment. Wealth envy is a right wing talking point. Nobody is lusting after anyone else's wealth. The left is not talking about envying the money of the rich. A rich man has never been taxed into poverty. The TARP worked. It was completely paid back by the economic benefit. The Economic Stimulus worked. It was actually completely paid back by the rebounding economy. The economy would have rebounded quicker if the Stimulus had been larger. It needed to be larger but Republicans prevented it. The reason they gave? They were afraid the debt would grow too quickly. Where is that fear now?

The current willingness of Republicans to irresponsibly ignore the billion dollar deficit during the good times which would allow it to be reduced totally blows away any argument Republicans previously had about controlling spending. Not a valid argument any more.

Bush dealt with dot com bust, 911 and business malfeasance trifecta and recovered in a year. Its a matter of using effective strategy.

You say you dont envy it but you want it... badly. What else do you call that ?

Sure is amazing the very different histories we remember.

The Dot Com bust began 10 months before Bush took office. Clinton AND Bush dealt with that. Clinton handed over a stellar economy to Bush, with no deficit, and a federal surplus.

You say you dont envy it but you want it... badly. What else do you call that ?

All we want is for the rich to pay their fair higher share which not only reflects their wealth but is required to make America great. America cannot be great with low taxes for the rich. The rich must be taxed at a higher rate than everyone else or the nation cannot be great. American greatness depends on taxing the rich more. I know you disagree with this but it is basic logic.

Here is the logic of what I say:

If the rich did not pay a higher share, and everyone was taxed just a little, then only a meager amount of revenue would be raised, which is not enough to do great things. One of the greatest things the USA ever did was put a man on the moon. That was only possible after the 90% tax rates on the rich in the 50's which stayed at or above 70% until Reagan. And no big surprise, when those rates were dropped so low is when the middle class began disintegrating and America stopped being great.

Money=power. The rich know that simple equation. The Koch family knows how to wield that power. Why the rest of Americans want to make the wealth gap worse, I cannot figure out. We do not vote for the Koch's to run and influence so much of America. We do not even get to know what they are like since they work in the deep state.
Like Teddy said, the rich are a threat to the system. It is not the immigrants who are taking your wealth.

So, like if the tax rate is 0% and the government decides to raise the tax rate, to say 5%, it won't increase tax revenues in the long run? You're Neocon moron in good standing.

This is another red herring. The tax rate is not 0%. So your example is irrelevant.

Also Neocon is nothing but a liberal construct there is no such thing, you may as well all me a Werewolf.

If this is the best you can do in response to what I posted you should just be quiet and not embarrass yourself.

When economic power became concentrated in a few hands, then political power flowed to those possessors and away from the citizens, ultimately resulting in an oligarchy or tyranny.

Good point.

The real deep state is the power of big money over our government.

Isn't it always like the unscrupulous to naturally assume that everyone is as underhanded as they are, and that others are trying all the dirty tricks they themselves use?

Hence, that explains the conservative 'deep state' accusations theory.

The dirty tricks the tricksters accuse others of are exactly what they themselves are doing.

They are spreading rumors there is this unspoken unwarranted power that Democrats are wielding over government, and really, the Republicans are the ones doing it.

When the end came to the Bush presidency, he was shedding 800,000 jobs a month. He has a crash that cost people their homes. Banks were closing at a terrible rate.Bush had no recovery.

Hello Gonzomin,

Obama was perceived as being better able to handle the tumultuous economy than McCain. Voters made a good choice in 2008. Obama listened to experts and did everything right. The economy rebounded and grew, the deficit was reduced.

Trump forgot all about his claim that he could eliminate the debt, didn't even try to, and instead ran it up. The deficit is now close to a Trillion dollars. All the Republican deficit hawks flew away as soon as the big borrower was elected.

Hello Cypress,

Wow. Obama did a great job.

Just like Trump to take credit for somebody else's work.

It looks like you're calling Trump a negro (accusing him of taking credit for someone else's work).

Republicans took control of Congress when the unemployment rate started to fall. And, don't be a Jew, give Trump some credit for his role in continuing that decline in unemployment, into record territory.

Yeah, that faggot Bush and the war he lied America into was real bad for the economy.

Bush had NOTHING to do with the mortgage implosion you lying partisan asshat. What is with the left and their propensity to fabricate buffoonish lie filled narratives?
