Teacher Suspended For Free Speech

Facebook is the same as "THE PUBLIC SQUARE" where Americans have been sharing their thoughts from day one. This is nothing more than another effort by the far left to shut up Christians. It's not the difficult.

Excuse me? Shut up Christians? Christ, himself, didn't condemn homosexuals, and never spoke to the matter. Christ asked anyone without sin to throw the first stone at Mary Magdelene...they all backed down. How then, does anyone get off condemning gays and lesbians, when they themselves are sinners in their own right? Whose sin is the more egregious? Eh? Can't you hear you.
Christians. Half the folks professing to be Christian, couldn't be further from it. Self-righteous, pompous, self-aggrandizing hypocrites, all.

No. A teacher should be circumspect, and watch what he or she says, and where he or she says it. Are you for real?

That may be your opinion, but every American has the constitutional right to free speech. Working as a teacher does not automatically deny you your constitutional rights in the public square.

Right. But it may cost you your job. Well, hey, at least you got to speak your piece. Something is something.

THere are limits to free speach, much like there limits to the right to bear arms.

Yeah...there are limits, very narrow limits....voicing your opinion about a political issue like this doesn't come under any limits by any stretch...
Liberals idiots have so distorted the rights of the first and second amendments enough to make the rights guaranteed under them an abomination....
and we have only ourselves to blame for allowing it to happen under our very noses....

The fact that "speaking your peice" cost you anything is against you civil rights you idiot.....are you too stupid to see the point.?.

No. Conventional wisdom and reality are two completely different things. The truth of the matter is despite the 1st amendment, you can't say anything that comes to your mind, without consequences. And I love it.
And you'd be the stupid one that can't spell "piece". Dumbass.

There is never a moment where a teacher should be considered a private citizen?

I'm just wondering how far we should go in watching them. If this same teacher was in a protest march seeking equal rights for some minority group of some kind should we fire them because they were expressing an opinion in public? Is it only facebook we should fire them for? Where can they ever express any opinion of their own? Quietly in their own house when nobody else is around? Maybe at church, where they'll sing praises...

What if the teacher expressed an opinion about God, should they be fired because they were not "circumspect"?

That's an excellent question but one for the lawyears to argue about. Keep in mind though that thanks to people who are so supportive of labor rights the reality on the ground is, that as far as your employer is concerned, you have no civil rights or freedoms. They end when you are hired and walk through their door.

So since apparently might makes right and I need my job...I watch what I say on FB.

Absolutely right. When you post on facebook, it's public record. And what you say may be held against you, as in a court of law. He's an idiot, for posting his private thoughts, publicly.

wtf.......if what he said was wrong you might have a point......I hope he sues the school and wins.....

Depends.

Seems you can't speak your mind any more on social media if you work for the Government. Big Brother is watching and ready to report you. Kinda hard to believe how far this nation has fallen and the direction it has taken. Anyone had enough?

I am not interested in the slightest in what some teacher did or didn't say, but it is time this 'free speech' crap is put to bed once and for all. Free speech was seen as a right, not so that loonies could say offensive things in public, but so that free people could voice their opinions about their government without fear or favour.
The misinterpretation of the concept of free speech is responsible for many of today's ills. With free speech comes responsibility and, unfortunately the immature fools who bang their little drums demanding to say anything they like 'because this is me and if you dont like it, tough luck' are all too often too immature to accept or even recognise the responsibility that comes with their freedom.
The British riots of last week were partly caused by this hair brained notion that 'we can say what we like and do what we like and no one can stop us'. Teachers cannot discipline their 'free' charges, parents can't clip a recalcitrant round the ear without some 'freedom spouting loony' threatening court action.
Teachers need to remember their responsibilities to their children and to society. If they do not wish to comply then don't be a teacher.
If this teacher spouted anti gay stuff or anti anything stuff on her facebook page that is OK, BUT it is not OK if it is designed to offend (which of course it is) and if it is designed to reach a wide audience (which I guess it is).
What is the matter with people and their lives when their 'fun' is facebook and twitter?
I was co-erced and couple of years ago to join twitter. I couldnt see what it was all about. I was encouraged to follow people and have people follow me but I could never understand why! After a month or two I quit.

There is never a moment when a teacher should NOT be responsible and act responsibly. That is the function of a teacher. Don't like it then become one of those people who park cars or something.

right, so now teachers must live up to YOUR standard. teachers no longer have freedom, they must live up to standards set by idiots like you.

Thats an excellent post up this point......

Teachers need only comply with law and practice ethical behavior...they don't lose their freedom by becoming teachers

What you may view as anti-anything, might just be a persons religious beliefs...is one to deny their personal values because YOU don't approve of them? Or maybe their personal beliefs on political issues differ from yours....so you can have ours but they are denied theirs....?

A teachers absolute duty is to teach what is required by law and to never, but never try to force their personal religious or political views on the students inside or outside the classroom and that limitation does not extend to silencing them at any other time or place where students are not their captive audience....

.

And that taboo of not forcing political views on students is overlooked today as never before....but only if the
political view is liberal....far left liberal, with students actually not getting the grades they deserve if they don't agree with those radical views....

Which employer would care about such an opinion?

Of course, we all should watch what we say on facebook. Too many people are too stupid to think it through and say stuff they would never say in public, without thinking that facebook really is public.

and that has what to do with what they say when they are not at work?

and you call me an idiot. LOL

Let me try to explain. Certain positions in society carry with them certain responsibilities. The 'jobs' of lawyers, doctors, teachers are known as 'professions' not simply jobs. To be 'professional' means to act with responsibility towards the society which you serve. People need and, indeed, want people to look up to (you in particular).
In the London riots last week the world was shocked because one rioter was reported as being a primary school teacher. The world was not shocked to the same degree at the behaviour of out of work youths and chavs. The 'teacher' was considered to have responsibilities over and above those of others.
Can you understand that?
Parents entrust their most valuable thing in all the world to teachers for the formative years of their lives. They have the right not to be let down.

I can't put it any simpler than that, Yurt. If you still wish to make an argument please choose someone else or somewhere else. You were tedious when I first encountered you, you are doubly so now.
