An Eagleswood Elementary School teacher snorted morphine at his desk in front of another teacher and students, police charge in a complaint.
Michael Palladino, 43, of Little Egg Harbor was arrested Dec. 3, and charged with official misconduct, possession of morphine and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and court records.
Palladino was arrested after he ingested a "controlled dangerous substance through his nostril, at his desk in a classroom during school hours in the presence of another teacher and students," according to the criminal complaint.
Specifically, Palladino was in possession of three beige pills containing extended release morphine sulfate in a plastic bag located in the top right desk drawer of his desk at the elementary school, according to the complaint. In addition, police said that Palladino also had one "homemade, hollow, cut, white, Bic pen containing an unknown residue that was used to ingest CDS nasally." It was located in the top left desk drawer of his desk at the school.
Palladino's most recent annual teacher salary was $61,880, according to state pension records. The Eagleswood Elementary School's website lists him as a teacher but does not specify his position beyond that.
Neither the district's superintendent, Deborah Snyder, nor its business administrator, Allison Bogart, were available for comment Friday morning.
