teachers union dictated health policy

One has to wonder why he spends 24 hours here on JPP where nobody listens instead of spending on those major forums and sites.

Eagle-eyed observers may note that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) changed its guidance for school distancing from six feet to three feet last month, thus removing the rationale Blue York Shitty and other blue-state schools had.

But the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) has an outsized influence on the city's Department of Education (DOE), so the city is slow-walking to the finish line of 2020–21.

"On Wednesday," a nearby elementary school principal emailed parents last week, "we were asked to 'await further guidance' in planning for 3 ft. distancing. We believe this may be because UFT and DOE have not reached an agreement on the distancing change. We cannot move forward until this is resolved." (In classic Blue York misgovernance fashion, the DOE immediately disputed this, though the delays on the ground remain.)

Public schools are flush with federal dollars. If they aren't open today, it's because they don't want to be.

Hey Shit-for-brains!

DO YOU THINK PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE THE ONLY SCHOOLS THAT SHUT DOWN- or are still shutdown?

"LOOK- OVER THERE- SHINEY"!

GIVE US A BREAK AND STFU!

Hey Shit-for-brains! DO YOU THINK PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE THE ONLY SCHOOLS THAT SHUT DOWN- or still shutdown?

Do you?

What's that got to do with public education unions exercising undue influence on health policy?

Newly-surfaced emails between teachers union executives and officials working for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) show that the unions played a role in crafting the language of the CDC’s school reopening guidelines, The New York Post reported.

The emails show that CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky coordinated with American Federation of Teachers (AFT) on language for the guidelines, and the union even described the CDC as its “thought partner.”

“We were able to review a copy of the draft guidance document over the weekend and were able to provide some initial feedback to several staff this morning about possible ways to strengthen the document,” AFT senior director Kelly Trautner wrote in an email to coronavirus mitigation officials. “…We believe our experiences on the ground can inform and enrich thinking around what is practicable and prudent in future guidance documents.”

A spokesperson for Walensky denied any political interference in the creation of the guidelines for school reopening:

“As part of long-standing best practices, CDC has traditionally engaged with organizations and groups that are impacted by guidance and recommendations issued by the agency,” spokesperson Jason McDonald told The Post. “These informative and helpful interactions often result in beneficial feedback that we consider in our final revisions to ensure clarity and usability.”

While these interactions occurred, Congressional Democrats also enjoyed an influx of donations from teachers unions for siding with them in the debate over reopening schools.

Which is a complete pile of shit...the schools do not exist for their benefit...

To open schools, you do require teachers. if the right had their way, they would pay no attention to teachers' safety. They apparently think the teachers, who are educated and can think, should ignore their own beliefs and rush back to schools when told. It does not work that way. We do have the LCD dictating a lot of policies. Ignore science and what you think and follow what Trump says.

Over 80% of teachers are very low risk, as are 99% of students.

The schools are not "cattle call fundraisers" for the teachers' unions and DNC, as they apparently believe.
This bullshit is another reason why we need SCHOOL CHOICE ,ALLOWING PARENTS TO DECIDE WHERE THEIR MONEY, FOR THEIR CHILDREN, SHOULD BE SPENT.

EVEN THE FRENCH ARE THAT SMART..AND THEIR SCHOOLS REFLECT THAT.

im against unions dictating health policy is all. and making it so they can skip work and still get paid.

The two suggestions are not earth shaking. You all need to keep calm and let it go.

"While the CDC was preparing to declare that all schools could provide in-person learning regardless of the degree of community spread of coronavirus, AFT senior director for health issues Kelly Trautner proposed adding new language. At least two language suggestions made by the AFT were adopted in some form in the final text of the CDC’s guidelines, the Post found. The emails were provided to the paper by Americans for Public Trust, a conservative watchdog group that obtained the documents through a Freedom of Information Act request.

While the CDC was preparing to declare that all schools could provide in-person learning regardless of the degree of community spread of coronavirus, AFT senior director for health issues Kelly Trautner proposed adding new language.

“In the event of high community-transmission results from a new variant of SARS-CoV-2, a new update of these guidelines may be necessary,” Trautner’s suggestion read. The language was added as part of the CDC’s guidance on reopening.

The AFT also pushed for exemptions from in-person work for teachers and staff at higher risk of susceptibility to coronavirus, as well as staff with a family member at high risk for COVID-19. Language outlining these exemptions was adopted as part of the final CDC guidance."

you need to be pro children. let all this lockdown stuff go, dear. it's tyranny.

Then what's the point of you being here at all?

:argue: :argue: :BKick:  :pke: :cuss: :tongout:  :awesome:

That's a fair question, and I value your opinions because everyone's opinions are valuable regardless to issue.

However my approach to voicing my opinion is like dealing cards. I'll lay down my cards face up for all to see by stating my opinion on any given subject. Take it- reject it- agree or disagree- but after I lay down my cards (OPINIONS), It's done- I'll leave the arguing up to the community to debate my opinions. I probably will not even try to counterpoint your opinion unless I agree with you, and then I will usually respond back to let you know you have convinced me I'm wrong and your opinion is the right one for me now.

It's silly to go back and forth, when we don't agree on any given subject just to see who gets the last word. Just because someone else responds with their opinion, and it becomes the last word- DOES NOT MEAN THEIR OPINION IS RIGHT- DOES NOT MAKE IT NECESSARILY WRONG EITHER- IT JUST MEANS THEY WERE THE LAST PERSON WILLING TO COMMENT ON THE ISSUE!

ARGUING IS FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T LISTEN TO ANYONE else OPINIONS ANYWAY BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY ARE SMARTER THAN ANYONE ELSE- SO THEY JUST RUN THEIR MOUTHS ARGUING WITH EVERYBODY.

I JUST POST MY OPINIONS- YOU, or anyone else, MAY ARGUE ABOUT THEM ALL YOU WANT!

I was just being comedic with that. I don't take myself too seriously here. This is a discussion board on the internet after all, not life and death or something so important it can't be ignored.
