Tesla Model S launched! Finally we see what the future of electric cars can be.

Did I say it was?

Can you afford to buy one, or not?

The discussion of the Tesla does not include information on my personal finances. But since you seem bound and determined to make this about me, instead of about the topic, I can indulge you. Yes, I could afford a Tesla. But it is not the type of vehicle I need.

So tell me, could you afford a Tesla?

So your thread is akin to Dumb Yankee's "New Toy" boasting?

I posted a thread about an exciting new vehicle produced by the first new car company this nation has seen in 80+ years. The technology that Tesla has created is nothing short of astounding. And the car they created is, in my opinion, a sign of the future of automobiles.

Are you saying that we should only post about products we are actually buying?

And why won't you answer my question? Can you afford a Tesla? You asked me that question. Why won't you answer it too?

Sure about that?

LOL that a Tesla 'excites' you....when a Honda Insight can be had for under $20K.

The prices that Tesla have created are nothing short of astounding.

If that's so, I will accord your opinion less respect than formerly.

Didn't you volunteer your boast that you can afford a Tesla?

Did I volunteer?

Yep.

Was it boasting?

Yep.

I was asked a direct question. (more than once?) I answered.

So you answered voluntarily, didn't you?

I did not boast.

Yes, you did.

I recall saying my finances were none of your business.

And then you voluntarily boasted that you could afford a Tesla.

Now, can you explain why Tesla (which you claimed was the first new car company this nation has seen in 80+ years) makes a better car than Honda?

So you ask me twice about my ability to afford a Tesla, and now you berate me for answering the question? lol Too funny. I am certainly not ashamed that I make a good living. I have worked hard to achieve the career I have, and I enjoy the rewards.

How is it that you refuse to answer questions, but keep asking them? And often your questions start with an assumption that may or may not be accurate. Did I say they made a better car? And how would you define "better" in this context?

So how about answering the question now? Can you afford a Tesla?

Most people will never drive over 300 miles a day. If you have the 240v system, you get around 62 miles per hour of charge. And the goal is to have super charging stations along interstates that will give you roughly half a battery charge in 30 mins. Stopping for 30 mins every 120 to 150 miles is doable on a family roadtrip.
Sounds too restrictive -- especially for that kind of money. No wonder Democrats love this car. If oil barons don't crush this slice of liberal utopia, the demand for more freedom, will.

Liberal utopia? lol I am sure you would loveto see the oil barons crush it. It fits your M.O..

When did I berate you for answering?

Do you know what "berate" means?

I am certainly not ashamed that I make a good living.

You aren't, are you?

Boasting about it on an internet political forum seems kind of weird, though.

How is it that you refuse to answer questions, but keep asking them?

Am I not answering one of your questions right now?

And often your questions start with an assumption that may or may not be accurate.

Can you give me an example?

Did I say they made a better car?

You didn't say you would buy a Honda Insight, did you? You also said this:

...an exciting new vehicle produced by the first new car company this nation has seen in 80+ years. The technology that Tesla has created is nothing short of astounding. And the car they created is, in my opinion, a sign of the future of automobiles.

So, do you consider Tesla's "exciting new vehicle" "nothing short of astounding" to be better than the Honda?

And how would you define "better" in this context?

Exciting? Astounding? A sign of the future?

So how about answering the question now? Can you afford a Tesla?

Being more modest than yourself, I refer you to your former answer.

When did I berate you for answering?

You have repeatedly called it bragging. I did not brag. I earn a good living. I have earned the rewards I get in the form of a paycheck and bonuses.

You aren't, are you?

Boasting about it on an internet political forum seems kind of weird, though.

I answered a question. I didn't say whether I could pay cash for it or whatever. No, it was not bragging.

You didn't say you would buy a Honda Insight, did you?

No, I did not say I would buy a Honda. But we are talking personal preference. I did not saying anything about either car being better.

So, do you consider Tesla's "exciting new vehicle" "nothing short of astounding" to be better than the Honda?

So you ask if I think the Tesla is better than the Honda after asking a question that started with the assumption that I did? Funny.

Exciting? Astounding? A sign of the future?

Yes, all of the above.

Being more modest than yourself, I refer you to your former answer.

Your shame is duly noted.

Yes. lol. It's too restrictive. Even those who can afford one won't be grandma mosesing down the freeway at 62mph. And 30 minute stops are too long... even for kids. lol.

So every vehicle you ever owned was suitable for a family vacation? My Jeep Wrangler is a great vehicle. But I certainly wouldn't want to load up the family for a vacation in it.

And where did the 62mph bit come in? No, the people who buy the Model S probably won't be grandma driving slow.

You voluntarily answered a question by boasting that you could afford to buy a Tesla after claiming your finances were not relevant to the discussion.

I did not saying anything about either car being better.

Is the Honda "exciting", "nothing short of astounding", or a "sign of the future"?

So you ask if I think the Tesla is better than the Honda after asking a question that started with the assumption that I did?

Non-sequitur.

Your shame is duly noted.

What "shame" is that?

Yes. lol. It's too restrictive. Even those who can afford one won't be grandma mosesing down the freeway at 62mph. And 30 minute stops are too long... even for kids. lol.

As for the restrictive part, most lease programs have mileage limits of less than 15k miles per year. That averages out to 289 miles per week. And the demand for freedom hasn't crushed car leasing.

From what I have found, the average american drives less than 14k miles a year.

You do understand the fuel cell requires the input of hydrogen from a tank right? Only the oxygen comes from "air".

The Honda-developed Vertical Flow (V Flow) fuel cell stack is nothing short of revolutionary. The advanced layout enables a vertical flow of hydrogen and oxygen from the air through a more efficient package.
The compact design also allows better distribution of the powertrain components for a sleek cabin-forward look that was not possible in earlier models.

How It Works
A hydrogen fuel cell produces electricity for the vehicle. The fuel cell combines hydrogen, which is stored in a fuel tank onboard the vehicle, with oxygen from the air to make electricity. The electricity then powers the electric motor, which in turn drives the front wheels. Water vapor and heat are the only byproducts.

A fuel cell is made up of a thin membrane wedged between two electrode layers in between two separators. Several hundred layers of these cells are connected in series.

1. Hydrogen fuel is fed into the anode of the fuel cell. Helped by a catalyst, hydrogen molecules are split into electrons and protons.
2. Electrons are channeled through a circuit to produce electricity.
3. Protons pass through the polymer electrolyte membrane.
4. Oxygen (from the air) enters the cathode and combines with the electrons and protons to form water.
5. Water vapor and heat are released as byproducts of this reaction.

Advances in fuel cell vehicle design accelerated rapidly once we began to develop our Honda fuel cell stack, turning conventional thinking literally on its ear. Read more about the Honda fuel cell evolution.

How do you think hydrogen is produced?

Rootbeer?
Where is the infrastructure to supply the hydrogen?
Can anybody use this car at all? I know of zero hydrogen suppliers.

You don't know what "boasting" means, do you?

Yes, I know the meaning of the word. And simply admitting that I can afford a vehicle that costs less than the vehicle I now own and drive for work is not boasting.

You voluntarily answered a question by boasting that you could afford to buy a Tesla after claiming your finances were not relevant to the discussion.

Yes I did. Is it boasting to say I have a mortgage? Because my house costs more than the Tesla does. Is it boasting to say that I have a retirement account? I'm 52 years old. If I had less than the cost of the Tesla in my retirement account I wouldn't be retiring.

Is the Honda "exciting", "nothing short of astounding", or a "sign of the future"?

I don't know, is it?
