Texas grid fails yet again

I will attempt to document my claim that Texas power officials turned off power to the gas system in such a way that they caused freezes, which meant that gas generation of electricity needed to shut down because they could not get fuel. I was sure that this is the story, and that it has been kept on the hush hush because power does not want the people to know that a lot of the misery was self inflicted, not because of the state of the systems or the weather, but from what officials decided to do at the time.

Natural gas lines were plugged by ice.

I'm retiring in TX in a few years and I'm afraid "hotter than normal" is about to be the new normal.

Heh. It's not so bad. Where in TX are you headed? The further south you go, the hotter it generally gets.
At least it doesn't rain for 9 months out of the year like it does here. :D

I see post 119 as contradictory....load shedding natural gas system assets either was a major problem or it was not.

I was under the impression that it was.

In another place this report also says that it was.

Load shedding is not shutting off heaters. Supplies were cut off due to pumps not operating (due to electrical failure). Valves were closed to some places to provide enough pressure to generate power. It wasn't enough, since the lines themselves plugged with ice.

Closing the valves is 'load shedding'. You can't provide natural gas if you ain't got it.

Not a major factor, since the lines themselves were plugged with ice.

In part because of not enough pressure.....not enough movement of gas.....which I believe was majorly caused by load shedding wells pumps and other infrastructure....because the people in charge were idiots.

Nope. Ice will form regardless of pressure. There was enough pressure after shedding load.
A natural gas source is not a load.

Yes, there were idiots. ERCOT directors were depending too much on wind generators. They can't operate in icing conditions. Further, the natural gas network was inadequate.

Although ERCOT is now essentially defunct, the defects they created will take years to correct.

San Antonio. I was just there last week. "Pub crawled" the Riverwalk on Cinco de Mayo - had a great time )

Read the articles you post. The grid didn't "fail." A power company simply asked customers to conserve because they took six plants offline for some reason.

Now, on the other hand, California is expecting blackouts to happen during the summer months and the state has already officially said they expect a 1,800 MW shortage in generation capacity as a major cause. This shortage is due entirely to that state's energy policy of going Green. Solar and wind simply cannot make up for the losses in nuclear and fossil fuel plant closings the state has forced on power companies.

Another problem in California is their neglect to increase reservoir capacity by enlarging existing dams and building new ones. This is resulting in a loss of hydroelectric generation because of massive water shortages the state is now facing. Again, this is entirely due to Greentard government policies.

So, while one power company in Texas asks customers to cut back on usage because some of their plants are undergoing maintenance, in California Leftist, Democrat governance is burning the state down quite literally.

She's an ocean going total fuckwit, surely you know that by now?

Anyone else notice that the only defense the alt right has for the failure of the Texas grid is to claim it is run by liberals? Funny how when red states fail, they magically become blue states.

Walt the title of this thread is a lie. I live in Texas and the Texas grid never failed. We were asked to limit drying cloths during peak us hours and to increase our thermostat setting during that 4 hour period of time out of an abundance of caution. May is the month that we take generating plants off line for periotic maintenance so several plants are down thus reducing capacity. Unfortunately we are experiencing unseasonably RECORD SETTING hot weather. It was 97 degrees in Dallas yesterday and 101 degrees in Lubbock. So the sky isn't falling and the grid has not failed. Evince is just lying and you are buying it hook line and sinker. Don't be so gullible.

I swear that some of them think the grid was sabotaged by HRC and George Soros personally :)

Lurch Do you think the Texas grid has failed.

Whoa, Buddy! Don't bring me into that! I don't know what your definition of "grid failure" is. I know that Cruz ran away from TX last winter because people couldn't heat their homes and he could afford to leave.

Awful lot of news sources disagree with you. Clearly in early 2021 the Texas grid failed badly. Now again, the Texas grid is failing. just not as badly.

You cannot both post an excuse for why the grid failed, and that the grid did not fail.
The grid is stained but not failed. You understand the difference don't you? Its when demand exceeds supply No one in Texas has suffered rolling black outs. If you think they have show your evidence Walty.

Yes we had grid failure in the winter of 2021. Cruz is a FEDERAL Senator and is POWERLESS to do in the Texas grid because its a STATE issue and not a FEDERAL issue. Cruz was just trying to take load off the grid by leaving the state.

Then why, when he was caught, did he cut his vacay short and run back like a little weasel? It's a fair question :)
