A) Not a coordinated effort. If any such effort exists it’s systemic and built in based on the commercial bases for American television. Television is a reflection of who we are in many ways… it has had the effect of forcing a reversion to the mean. There are advertisers who push an agenda, and news organizations that push an agenda but they are not “Television”. The goal of programming is simply to accumulate the most eyeballs of the people with money they are willing to spend. In many ways programming is a reflection of what consumers will pay attention to. Then there is narrowcasting but that’s beyond this post.
