Dude, no one on JPP is compassionate or magnanimous so you can unclinch.

You, and many others, love to claim otherwise. I never have and never will, and if the only thing I have now is pointing that out to you and making you see the suffering you advocate for, you can be dammed sure I'm gonna do it.

As noted in another thread, there are JPP members who were mentally ill before COVID, but the social and psychological impact of isolation from COVID is having an impact on most people, some much worse than others. No doubt there will be many Masters and Doctoral theses written on the subject of "the COVID Blues" in both the US and across the civilized world.

In most present articles it's termed "COVID fatigue", but "COVID Blues" goes better for those with a poetic or lyricist bent. The GOT phrase "Winter is coming" now takes on a different meaning. Winter is here.

Winter is coming: COVID fatigue is merging with winter blues and SAD
Exhaustion from COVID-19 is made worse by cold, darkness and diminished holidays

Using Behavior Activation to Fight the COVID-19 Blues
Together with the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s WonderLab, Dr. Lewandowski offers suggestions for parents and teens to help cope with depression during this difficult time.

Mood Maintenance and Prevention: An Activity a Day
A general daily checklist of mental health “nutrition” can help maintain positive mood, Dr. Lewandowski says. These mental health nutrients include the following:...

COVID-19 Blues or Something More? How to Know When to Get Help
This isn’t an ordinary situation — and humans aren’t especially great at coping with long-term, stressful, isolating situations, especially ones we can’t do much about.

If you can’t afford therapy, there are a number of low-cost support services online, as well as hotlines and warm lines that are there to help.

From another thread:
The worst for me has been watching the increasing number of deaths and cases, the loss of jobs and businesses, the increased number of people in line for food, and the abysmal handling of it by the Trump Administration and Congress.

It is becoming more personal, a 9 year old boy in Anchorage is fighting COVID and an infection in his hip that COVID is complicating treatment. He goes in for his second surgery tonight to remove the infection. He is one of my dearest friends grand son. If I repeat myself it’s because this virus is a crap shoot. Take precautions.

Link?

Great! It's great to point out suffering. What suffering are you complaining about? Quote or link of what I've posted that is causing you suffering?

What suffering has our national government caused, who did it and what do you suggest we do about it?

An interesting side point since I've saved a ton of cash since last May when I took partial pay via early retirement. I'd been out for medical issues since September 2019, so, TBH, COVID worked out financially for me. OTOH, my sister and BIL took a major financial hit since both worked in service jobs; sister had a manager job and my BIL ran his own tattoo business. They are now both back to work with CDC procedures in play, but it was a tough past winter and spring for them.

Sorry to hear about your sister and BIL. Our family realizes how fortunate we have been to dodge the bullet on this thing.

Sorry about your sister. No disrespect, but dead is dead. Politics shouldn't enter into it unless it was a policy that killed her.

As for the Great TP Crisis of 2020, it's like the Great Ammo Crisis of 2013. People panic when they have shitty leadership they cannot trust.

No doubt you are like most Boomers, Xers, etc, and consider yourself first before the good of the nation. Yes, I hope the parks open soon, but I understand the reason and agree with the decision. YMMV

You mean like when Trump said "it is what it is"? I agree.

Not saying anything political, she was in a nursing home and they got more money if their patients died of covid than something else. They even kept her $1200 stimulus check which would have helped with funeral costs.

Dude, I live in Florida. Every hurricane that rips through here in my memory(since 1978), three things disappear from store shelves: TP, canned meats(SPAM, corned beef hash, etc.), and bottled water. I went to Publix yesterday and guess what was missing? Hint: No run on bottled water. Nothing to do with "shitty leadership"(except when the jackasses blame Trump for "climate change"). How could it? The vegetable-elect is gonna save us all, right? And yes, I have a participation trophy from the Great Ammo Crisis of 2013, and that WAS a result of shitty leadership, specifically obama/BIDEN shitty leadership.

No doubt you are like most Boomers, Xers, etc, and consider yourself first before the good of the nation

I won't speak for the rest of the boomers here, but I'm not gonna disagree with you too much. I've had it with the vision that these leftist jackasses have for this country. The youngsters have been calling for the torch to be passed. I am not opposed to this in theory, but I did not expect these youngsters to be so stupid. It's like giving your kid your mint 1969 Boss 429 Mustang and he trades it straight across for a 5 year old Kia. If it's any consolation, if mail-in ballots are still a thing in 2 years, I'm through voting.

Yes, I hope the parks open soon, but I understand the reason and agree with the decision.

I was okay with it until we got a handle on the situation, but logic dictated that the type of hunting, fishing and camping I like to do is far healthier than cooping me up in a house for 4 months. Most of my sites are now open with restrictions.

isnt really about that. Our economy is based on consumption. People need money to consume, without it there is no consumption hence no economy

Well now there are a few million less competitors for goods. So cheer up you filthy Boomer. Not like they're gonna reduce your SS payments, no matter how much I pray God.

Having been through 5 hurricanes in Florida, and 2 typhoons on Okinawa, I know what you mean. It's why I always stock up with a few months food supplies. Longer for non-perishables. The Great TP Crisis didn't cause a shortage at my house. After the debacle of 2013, same for ammo. FWIW, before 2012 I hadn't shot much in the previous 20 years and had very little need for lots of ammo on hand. After 2013, that will never happen again. Thanks Obama.

That said, good leadership can overcome a lot of stupidity in people since they are the ones most in need of it. Smart people like you and me have prepared.

Young liberals mature into more conservative adults. Life goes on. I'm just doing my best to enjoy the ride.

Aww, jeez. You have the same entitlement issues as AHZ. Do you have a face tat and a nose ring like him too?

Except for the death of my sister(still not convinced it was the wu flu that killed her. She had a medical encyclopedia of co-morbidity), the stupid toilet paper crisis, and my favorite outdoor locations being closed, this whole thing has just been a relatively pleasant preview to my upcoming retirement. Helpful hint: find challenging, interesting things to do. Things that will take YEARS to master or better yet, things that can't be mastered at all. Now I know why retirees play golf.

My condolences and sympathy goes out to you for the tragic loss of losing your sister- no matter what took her!!

My little Sister died of a horrible cancer a couple of years back, and I know what the loss of a sister feels like!

Watching America die, watching the American people be such ignorant sheep, watching effectively martial law be not only widely imposed but too the courts do nothing, watching one of the greatest shows of Elite Class poor performance ever sucks.

On the plus side my wife is home almost all the time now but otherwise my daily life is mostly undisturbed, I had pretty much stopped throwing parties because too often the guests suck now, and after years of sampling the Seattle restaurant scene I was already doing less of that anyways because of the degrading security situation on Seattle, I can get by without it forever, though it really sucks that it has come to this.

I am so sorry.

From another thread:

Personally, so far this is the best winter I’ve had in decades. I’m retired, get to indulge some hobbies and spend more time with the grandkids.

I’m not neurotic about COVID so the virus itself has literally no impact on my daily life. I can easily go the whole day without thinking about it but certain entities make it impossible to escape.

The real mental health unfolding tragedy is amongst kids and young people.

Kids need to be back in school and back amongst their peers everywhere, and now.
