WASHINGTON (AP) - House Democrats have declined to subpoena available records that might reveal whether other members of Congress got discounted VIP mortgages from subprime lender Countrywide Financial Corp. similar to the sweetheart deals given Democratic Sens. Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – A U.S. judge on Thursday denied a bid by Fox News Network LLC seeking details from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve about the central bank's loans to companies affected by the financial crisis.

The owner of the Fox Business cable network made an initial request for documents in November last year under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) about the companies and funds they received between August 2007 and November 2008.

Now there's an optimistic view.

I gots news for you; the country is not spiralling down the sewer. Even now, at what many think might be the bottom of the economic cycle (though I'm sure you're referring to more than the economy), America is still one of the most amazing countries in world history.

People bitch about lost freedoms and tyranny, but it insults countries that have had to live under true oppression. I have had my complaints about America, but in the end, it's still a place where you can basically do whatever you want, and anyone can make whatever dreams they have happen with hard work and preserverance.

I voted for Obama & support him, but it wouldn't matter who was President: the economy will eventually recover, as it always does, and we will experience years of incredible prosperity again, as we always do.

Could the golden age of America be past?
Will we ever recover to where we were before the downturn?
What will we have to do to keep up with the rest of the world?
