A protest over the burning of Qurans at a U.S. base turned violent Sunday, leaving a protester dead and several U.S. service members and police wounded, officials said.

The violence in northern Kunduz province came a day after a gunman killed two U.S. military officers inside the highly secured Afghanistan Ministry of Interior.

U.S. officials have said the burning of the Muslim holy books was inadvertent.

The demonstration Sunday -- the sixth day of protests -- began peacefully, said Kunduz police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hussaini. But it soon turned violent as demonstrators attacked the police chief's office and a U.S. military site.

Protesters threw a hand grenade at the base, injuring seven U.S. military personnel believed to be Special Forces ...

Ok, really? Are we going to try to defend burning holy books by the army? Do you remember the last people who burned bibles? The nazis? And we're still pissed about it.

How do you "accidentally" burn a bunch of Qurans? Why did you have them all in one place? Were you going to destribute them? Ya, right.

I know, that "accidentally" part made me burst out laughing. And then I was insulted that the general thought we'd all be so dumb as to buy that explanation.

People "inadvertently" burn other folks' sacred books all the time, don't they?

the whole thing sucks on both sides

accidentally on purpose maybe

but to kill over

we do not belong in afghanistan any more - so lets stop being policeman of the world and leave

we will make no more permanent change in afghanistan than in iraq...except for the dead and maimed

The problem is "protests" most people go out to show their anger about soldiers burning religious texts, they want people to know they're angry and not going to take it. Then somebody shouts something and somebody else throws a fruit, and hey, throwing fruit is fine, its just gonna mess up those uniforms they're so proud of, then they run out of fruit and all that's left is rocks. It gets out of hand so fast. Just look at some of the OWS stuff or Riots in the US, and that's where everyone speaks the same language, is from the same country, and for the most part is christian. There are just so many things that can go wrong.

I doubt 95% or even 99% of the people at that protest thought it might get violent, there was probably one or two guys who wanted to start something, then it just went crazy. Oh, and if you want an american example from the other side, look up the Boston Massacre.

nobody bothered to answer my question, why? too afraid of the truth?
So what, if Iran was occupying say, Spain and decided to start burning bibles? Ummmm, pretty sure the uproar would have already occured, but there wouldn't be an uproar over the riot itself. Christians just think that Quran's are just bits of heretical scribble for the sand niggers to play with while they look for our oil.

your nonsensical example is pitiful.

say an afghanistan community block party burned some bibles, so some christians started running through that neighborhood killing those responsible for burning bibles....you'd want to hang the christians, yet I don't see you on here bitching about muslims killing american troops because they just burnt some books. hypocrisy.

And your example is an entirely diferent situation with it's own form of controversy. In your situation 5 gets you 10 that within the hour every single one of those afghans is getting put on a watch list, their kids are being bullied in schools, they are out of jobs and on their own. Plus a fair number of those christians are getting a slap on the wrist because "well, those guys deserved it".

Try harder to find a reason to burn somebody else's religious texts rather than "accident" next time.

while seemingly mostly true...we have made change in iraq. japan and germany took decades to see the change wrought after WWII. i think we need at least another decade to judge that.

that explains your vociferous reaction to my posts. you think I condone the burning or accept the 'accident' excuse. pitiful.
