The death of Khashoggi serves political ambitions of Turkey - U.S. think tank 2018-10-20 The killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi is a part of a broader ideological struggle rooted in the complicated Turkish-Saudi relationship, an American think tank Atlantic Council said .

"Turkish government has, historically, been deferential to the Saudi leadership," Atlantic Council said, "however, in the years following the Arab Spring, the two countries have competed to shape political outcomes in the Middle East."

According to the think tank, the competition in Egpyt where the Turkey-backed Muslim Brotherhood was ousted by the 2013 coup supported by Saudi Arabia, the diplomatic row between Qatar and rest of the Gulf countries in which Turkey maintained its support for Qatar, are examples of the complicated rivalry between Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

"Khashoggi supported the once-popular idea of a 'Turkish model' for transitioning Arab states," Atlantic Council said. The killing of Jamal Khashoggi is an opportunity for Turkey in the struggle with the Saudis, according to the organisation.

"Turkey has released damaging information about the bungled murder in short bursts," Atlantic Council said, "this has allowed Turkey to control the narrative and place incremental pressure on the Saudi government."

According to the U.S. think tank, Turkey's ultimate goal in this strategy is to see Muhammed Bin Salman, the crown prince, weakened and changes made to Saudi foreign policy.

But the organisation shed light on the other side of the story. "Turkey is unlikely to succeed," it said, " The US-Saudi relationship is deep, multifaceted and ultimately rooted in raw power politics."

Leveraging murder for political ambition the Turkish and Qatari way

The killing of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi represents a golden opportunity for all those forces opposed to the current direction of US Middle East policy. Unsurprisingly, these disparate elements are seeking to exploit the situation to the maximum. Will their efforts succeed?

exactly. the Big Picture is KSA screwed up big time, and it will probably wind up hurting both KSA and the USA

Do you have any idea what Yemen is about?

Yeah, see the UN, they've lined it all out, humanitarian crisis we helped create, including with internationally illegal cluster bombs known to have a 90% collateral casualty rate in the field. But of course we pulled out of the UN Council on Human Rights so we would not have to suffer the criticism of such things seeing as how we militarily support 3/4s of the world's military dictatorships while we economically cannibalize, incarcerate and murder our own people at home to float the global empire.

Don told us, meh, we want to sell the wealthy Saudis arms, that's a bigger deal. Nothing new, he just said it out loud. We're everyfuckingwhere. Where we do not belong. The entire world knows about our bogus groundless excuses to endlessly war and promote/fund/profit from war across the globe and destabilize other governments. We're still in Afghanistan and shitting all over the Middle East, curious as to where blowback comes from, but the corporate state media manages that illusion. We're fucking around in Venezuela as well, Africa, ... our meddling in Latin and South America goes back decades. This "caravan", nothing new either, is a result of our behavior and meddling in Honduras in 2009. We’ve just never had a president demonize our co-conspiratored victims before as scapegoats for the american peasantry.

You’ve come at me like this before; we have no grounds for discussion. I can tell by your lead question. Or I have thus far assumed I can tell, maybe I shouldn’t have, let’s see. Hope I’m wrong.

I assumed you wanted to get into a discussion along the lines of many Israeli/Palestinian “debates” which devolve into competitions over who has rights to what and who was most wronged or wronged first, stuff like that. If so I don’t care. Doesn’t matter to me.

America should not be party to genocide anywhere and we should sever ties with the Saudis. That's how I feel. Makes no difference to me who started what. At all. WE had better get our empire under control.

The people.

Know what?

The Wall Street/donor/”job creator” class runs on this stuff. But empires once able to fund themselves upon endless expansionism always return the militarism home once the empire goes into decline.

So, you tell me what's going on in Yemen.

Trump lied.. There is no plan to sell the Saudis a billion dollars in arms.

Yemen has been invaded by a half dozen terrorist groups .. AQ, Al Shabaab. Boko Haram, ISIS, al Houthis...

We've partnered with AQ, ISIS and a host of others before, we do business with them when it favors the agenda. We sell them arms all the time, your "example" is hollow of this shit he says now about one deal.

I was right, nevermind.

you can rest now :) I used to think it would take until the midterms but with the magabomber no one cares about kasnuggies anymore.

What an awful lie.

Awful yes, a lie no, you have some due diligence to do. War is just business in america and there's always room for more, it's good for the economy. Your power structure just came right out and told you so. Here's a partial list of who we've partnered with recently:

Saddam
Osama
al Qaida
al Nusra
ISIS
Neonazis in Ukraine
The genodical Israelis in their endeavor to cleanse Palestine
The genocidal radical Wahabist Islamist beheading/dismembering Saudis in their slaughter in Yemen

as we fled the UN Council on Human Rights. We also have a dominatrix torturess heading up the CIA who already disappeared evidence of US torture.

It is indeed awful, but it seems to bring the "left" and the "right" together doesn't it.

Fweedumb.
