The death of the Republican party.

In the school of thought that defines parties as networks of actors who have a common purpose, Fox News is easily included as part of the GOP — not just as a sympathetic news outlet, but as a member of the party coalition. So we have a situation where the Republican Party’s polling front-runner is openly feuding with its biggest media outlet. This is not how parties are supposed to work according to many political scientists. - Julia Azari

I have been saying this for months, finally someone in the media agrees. Or is brave enough to say it.

Interested to see how the Republican party is reborn in 2018.

Desh was saying the Republican Party was dead in 2009. How did that prediction turn out?

Nominate a socialist Jarod and we'll see the death of the Democratic Party.

So a media type chooses to declare media of being components of political parties. And we are expected to accept this ?
While there is an obvious relationship between the two the only thing wrong is that media is taking a side at all.

Trump v Fox is a good thing. Media making itself the news is wrong and needs to be exposed.

You don't think Fox News (and MSNBC) have become components of their parties? Rush Limbaugh openly talks about attending "Strategy sessions" with Roger Ailes and Speaker Newt Gingrich at Gingrich's Capitol Hill Office. How is Fox, whose head is attending Republican Party strategy sessions not a part of the party?

She was premature, but I am not saying the brand will cease to exist, it will rise again, but in a new form. There will still be something called "The Republican Party". Like there is still a band called "The Monkeys". It will happen to the Democratic party again someday like it did in the 1960's when the desegregation issue destroyed what was the Democratic party.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The State by State polling data clearly shows that Bernie would beat both Trump and Cruz.

The sad fact for the GOP is they have a redneck problem that they created and I feel little sympathy for the GOP. The GOP has for almost two generations used conservative social issues to gain the political support of working class white males while never, ever, having any real intent of either representing working class folks economic interest and precious little effort to advance the social issues they believe in. So now they are seeing a revolt. If Bernie's popularity isn't from his progressive or social democratic views. It's because, like Trump, he's telling the people the truth that our Government stopped looking after the interest of the average citizen a long time ago. Bernie is just doing it without the bigotry.

Sure they're a lot of morons who don't know what socialism or social democrats are (like Wacko) where it's just a demonized pejorative.

So no...you're flat out wrong. Nominate Bernie and if the GOP nominates Trump, and that's looking better and better to happen than the data clearly shows Bernie becoming POTUS.

Unlike you, some people actually know what socialism is and don't look under their bed every night for some imaginary monster out of an Ayn Rand novel or Fox News segment.

There is a time and a place for socialism....after a generation of the catastrophic consequences that supply side economics has had on working class Americans, well maybe it is time to change things up a little bit and give working people a break. The ubber rich have been getting one for over 30 years now. Thus the pendulum swings too and fro.

the mere notion that reverting to socialism is something that will 'fix' america or change things for the working class is ludicrous......at best. the only thing that socialism will do is embed us with a two class system...the ruling class and the rest of us. make no mistake that the status quo will not change, it will just brighten the line between us.

Polls one year out before a vote has been cast in the primary have a long history of not being accurate.

And democratic socialism is a pejorative. There's a reason the U.S. is the world's economic power and it's not because of democratic socialism. Europe is already having economic and demographic challenges. Let's see them take on the leading military role in the world as well and see how well their form of socialism stands up.

Repeat post from another thread:

The problem with the GOP is that it is comprised of basically 3 parts, the 1st two of which have no business being in it: the religious/social fanatics, the business/US chamber of commerce wing, and the true small government/low-tax conservatives.

As long as the 1st one (business wing) is included in the GOP, it will never be a true conservative, rational party. The corporates support endless illegal immigrants which destroys the country's social fabric and middle class, corporate welfare which is fundamentally wrong unless for true R&D, endless wars for the MIC, and monopolist corporations like Verizon/Time Warner which drive the cost of cell phones and cable TV higher with worse product than elsewhere around the world.

If the GOP were to outright expel the business/religious wings, take a centrist position on social issues like abortion, and a conservative one on fiscal issues and immigration, it would be the majority party for the next 100 years. But the current leadership is beholden to large campaign donations, so it would rather be a fragmented, opposition party than a majority, successful one.

It is imperative that the next president stop illegal immigration and deport all of the illegals, and terminate lunatic, job-destroying programs such as the H1-B scam that have enriched a few at the top and obliterated the middle class. Trump is the only candidate who has taken such a stand which is why he is so popular and will likely win the general election.

The challenge with your narrative is it really only appeals to blue collar white men. That demographic can't win a national election.
