RALEIGH, N.C. -- A federal judge ordered three North Carolina counties to restore thousands of voter registrations canceled too close to Election Day after the NAACP sued over the removals.
U.S. District Judge Loretta Biggs issued the preliminary injunction Friday after an emergency hearing earlier in the week on NAACP allegations that those counties -- and possibly others -- purged voter rolls through a process disproportionately targeting blacks.
Biggs said the three counties must restore voter registrations canceled in the 90 days preceding the election because of a federal law prohibiting blanket removals that close to Election Day. She concluded that Cumberland, Beaufort and Moore counties had gone about “systematically purging between 3,500 and 4,000 voters from registration rolls” since August.
Early voting ends Saturday in the critical swing state, which the NAACP has previously sued over other voter access issues.

The voters’ names were removed through challenges filed by activists, which the NAACP said was illegal because of the proximity to the election. Challengers in Moore and Cumberland counties include volunteers with the Voter Integrity Project, a group that says it aims to guard against voter fraud.
But Biggs took issue with the process in her ruling.
“Voter enfranchisement cannot be sacrificed when citizens through no fault of their own have been removed from the voter rolls,” she said. “Moreover, electoral integrity is enhanced, not diminished, when all citizens who are eligible to vote are allowed to exercise that right free from interference and burden unnecessarily imposed by others.”

Kind of sad that this 2 year old thread is still pertinent today.

2002 New Hampshire Senate election phone jamming scandal
The 2002 New Hampshire Senate election phone jamming scandal involved the use of a telemarketing firm hired by that state's Republican Party (NHGOP) for election tampering. The tampering involved using a call center to jam the phone lines of a get out the vote (GOTV) operation. In the end, 900 calls were made for 45 minutes of disruption to the Democratic-leaning call centers.
During that state's 2002 election for the United States Senate seat being vacated by Republican Bob Smith, the NHGOP hired GOP Marketplace, based in northern Virginia, to jam another phone bank being used by the state Democratic Party and the firefighters' union for efforts to turn out voters on behalf of then-Governor of New Hampshire Jeanne Shaheen on Election Day. John E. Sununu, the Republican nominee, won a narrow victory. In addition to criminal prosecutions, disclosures in the case have come from a civil suit filed by the state's Democratic Party against the state's Republican Party (now settled).
Four men have been convicted of, or pled guilty to, federal crimes and sentenced to prison for their involvement as of 2008. One conviction has been reversed by an appeals court, a decision prosecutors are appealing. James Tobin, freed on appeal, was later indicted on charges of lying to the FBI during the original investigation

Lanny Griffith, the committee's Southern political director,
You know, I'm going to have to come right out and say that this is absolute tosh.
As an Independent, I get to watch both sides and not vote along party lines. I get to not have to defend one candidate or the other while at the same time being able to slam both if I feel it appropriate.
And I also get to watch the members of both sides, and here's what I've noticed:
Republicans can get people out to vote like nobody's business. They actually motivate themselves and are willing to do what's necessary to win (often in the most asshole way possible).
Democrats, on the other hand, tend to suffer from a serious case of the Apathies or, failing that, the Lazies.
Democrats and Liberals, I've found, want change but they rely by and large on someone else effecting that change for them.
And that is why, on the whole, Republican continue to win. Democrats (not all, but far too many) are too damned lazy, or are too damned lost in the believe that someone else will take care of it, to get off their asses and vote.
And so we wind up with a despicable demagogue and a racist, misogynistic, anti-science, fascist cabinet for our government.
Trump's win is the fault of every single person who couldn't be bothered to vote.
you dont win elections you steal them
