Block 24 in Beheshte Zahra, Tehran’s main cemetery, has been reserved for the lives lost in Israel’s attacks.
Cemetery workers are working around the clock, digging new graves, for children and adults alike.
Their coffins are covered in Iran’s flag as their families and friends’ wails of grief can be heard everywhere, more joining them every hour.
“Burial site for the martyrs of Zionist Regime’s attacks” a banner at the entrance reads. A cemetery worker explains that this is a big block dedicated to this, with a lot of space for new graves.
The grief is for everyone, as photographers who are here to documents the scene work with tears in their eyes.
The names of the ones to be buried are read aloud:
“Maryam Babaei, Azam Mirzaei, Mohammad Alizadeh, Sona Haghighi and her 11 year old son Soheil Katouli, Mehrdad Kil Kazemi, Morteza Abbasi, Hafiz Boustani, Alireza Mousavi, Alireza Akbari, Gholamreza Forghani who was a soldier, Parsa Mansour Hezar Jaribi, 13 year old Amirali Khorrami, Zahra Choubiri, Maryam Minaei, Seyed Ali Akbar Seyedan, Abbas Nozari Kheyrabadi, Mohammad Chenari, Parnia Abbasi, Mansoureh Shahriari, Parviz Abbasi, 3 members of a family: Mohammad Haji Soltan, Mehrnoosh Haji Soltan and Nahid Mohammad Rabiei, Tabassom Paak, Mohammad Ali Balaei, Mohammad Hossein Ghasemi, Mohammad Amir Mahdi, Majid Babaei, Hossein Tabi Kakou who was on assignment and had yet to see his 12 month old son, Saeid Faraji whose child is to be born in two weeks, Nima Rajabpour who was a producer of a news program, Sajjad Bodaghi, Hamid Azkaat, Mohammad Reza Tavakkoli, Zohreh Rasouli who is buried holding her 2 month old son Rayan Ghasemian, both died in the fire of an explosion along with the father, leaving only a 4 year old son still in the hospital, Saeid Haghighi, Mojtaba Maleki, Amir Hossein Jamshidi Pour, Abdolghader Golestan, Mohammad Hasan Bolandi, Majid Moghaddam. Mojtaba Razihi, Mother of a Martyr Maryam Mola Bagher Ketab Foroush, Mohammad Mehdi Mirzaei, Jaber Bayyat, Alireza JahanShahi, Mehran Heydari who liked to be called Mehdi, Jalal Heydari, Fatemeh Kaveh, Seyed Isa Mansoureh Haji Salem, Mohammad Taghi Talakoub Shirazi, Hossein Sasan, Mohammad Biglar, Fariba Keyhani, Mohammad Javad Bahiraei and Seyed hamid Reza Maktabi.” The same kind of list for another day: “ Nazdar Moradi, Fazlollah Faraji, Mohammad Hossein Azizi, Masoud Ghasemnejad, Mohammad Reza Hosseini, Milad Saeid Abadi, Hossein Lotfibakhsh, Mehdi Zeynal, Nahid Ansari, Sajjad Shahmohammadi and Saeid Aghili”.
