The Fix

This has got to be old as things like this usually are before they find their way to me but I had to post this. I like it. :)

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes..

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

Well, for one, that plan is a 40 trillion dollar plan, TARP was 700 billion, and TARP is all going to be paid back for a profit to taxpayers.

All of these attacks on congressional pay are stupid and childish things pushed by ignorant small populist minds. Nobody runs for congress for the pay. LR should have his privilege to vote stripped.

Yes, I can multiply. I can see the cost of the "plan." But you gotta admit it would be a pretty good plan for someone who has lived for half a century. I'm not quite eligible yet but a guy can dream, can't he?

As for your last paragraph....mmmm..OK.

Wow. How does having 40 million people forced to not work going to help the economy?

They will have a million dollars, and all the people under fifty will have jobs.

Right now babyboomers have turned on their fellow citizens, and prefer outsourcing to eliminate domestic threats to their tenured positions.

Yeah it'd be fucking awesome if we had several times our GDP just lying around. If you were old. I just think it's a dumb e-mail chain.

From your last sentence, I presume you're saying the government should implement this plan.

I can just hear the uproar as repubs lambaste the commies in government for demanding that people live their lives according to this formula. :D

Ok, just for shits and grins, let's treat this as a serious proposal.....

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
Though there are many who would deny it, the primary purpose of Social Security was originally to allow a large number of older workers to retire, thus opening jobs to younger unemployed. The only plus to this in comparison is it's a once off. However, are those people under 67 going to be allowed to retire at full SS benefits? What about those who would be forced to retire before they qualify for their company 20/25/30 year pensions? And they'll need those pensions and SS. If you think a single million will tide these people over, many of whom will live an additional 30, 40, even 50 years, you're crazy. Especially in the face of the inflation that dumping 40 trillion non-existent dollars on the economy will cause.

2) They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
For how long? A year? two? three at the most, then things hit the skids again. Not many will be in the market for a new car 3 years from when they buy their U.S. government mandated purchase. That is the problem with keynesian economics. As soon as the government stops propping up the economy, it slumps again, because any growth realized is based on government spending, not people.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.
Does that mean a married couple over 50 has to buy 2 houses? Also, the majority of mortgages in trouble do not belong to people over 50, but in the age group between 30 and 50. Are we going to buy their houses and dump them on the streets? Silliness in the extreme.

Two proposals that make sense:

One, make the critters writing our tax laws pay according to the laws they write. Only fair. Won't do much for the economy overall, but making our lawmakers play fair would certainly go a long way in establishing a government worthy of our respect and support. (aside to bitch of sandwich: "Nobody runs for congress for the pay." Do you really think the delinquent taxes owed by many congress critters is from their congressional salaries?)

And: MAKE CONGRESS CRITTERS LIVE ON WHAT THEY DESIGN FOR THE PEOPLE!!! Damned straight. If they were actually affected by the fucking shit they toss down on the people, you can bet it will at least be treated and deoderized.

I seriously doubt the back taxes owed by people in government is any greater per capita the population at large. You guys are just populist idiots making a mountain out of a molehill.

the above plan would cost $40 TRILLION dollars....

Watermark called out this idiocy by the second post;

The more of your BULLSHIT I read, the more upset I become. You are like Switzerland in WWII, neutral, yet still guilty and you have the balls to call me out and the utter pretention to say "it's not about the money".
I have ignored you for a long time, based on my instinctive distrust of your flip-floppy I belong on both sides screen name.
I wish you had had the sense to leave me alone as well.
