After nearly nine years of war, tens of thousands of casualties—including 4,500 dead—and more than $800 billion spent, the U.S. military on Thursday prepared to formally end its mission in Iraq and leave the country.

For years, commanders in Iraq have handed off to their successors the top call sign, Lion 6, along with the American battle flag adorned with a Mesopotamian sphinx.

But on Thursday, in a tradition-drenched ceremony with Defense Secretary Leon Panetta looking on, the current Lion 6, Army Gen. Lloyd Austin, will pull down the colors....

Way to go Obama....

Cheney figured about 6 months at the start. The admin took it so casually.

Maybe we can finally learn the lesson: war is a last resort. Always.

Since Obama got Osama it seems the right has been anti-war.

No More Wars of Choice?!!

It's not just the monetary cost of this national tragedy, but all those lives lost! Bush got a lot of our troops killed and wounded, for what? Not to mention hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's and counting! The whole region is more dangerous now, than before the Bush War?!! We need to make sure these wars of choice, never happen again!!! (Bring back the draft when these wars are started, it's all about shared sacrifice!) The draft will stop these wars of choice too!

What did those men and women die for?

Beats me. No WMD, no oil, all Bushs' promises were empty. Now the survivors come home to no jobs, but the rich get tax breaks and only pay 15% capital gains.

I see the rightwingers have no excuse for the wasted efforts, the trillions borrowed and spent, the lives lost, or the shame of Abu Ghraib etc...

The Arab spring.

Michele Bachmann condemned the Arab Spring and blamed President Obama for allowing it to happen by “showing weakness” and by compromising the United States’ relationship with Israel.
Why do you think there was an Arab Spring, she asked at a GOP fund-raiser at a local barbecue restaurant here. She went on to tie the uprisings to what she described as signals from the White House that America was abandoning Israel.
And in a new historical analogy, Bachmann drew a comparison between the fall of the Shah of Iran — who Bachmann says Jimmy Carter “turned his back” on — and President Obama’s present-day relationship with Israel.

Don't you ever listen to your leaders?

'New Yorker' Editor: Obama Responsible for Lack of Anti-Americanism in Arab Spring Uprisings

DAVID REMNICK, EDITOR ‘NEW YORKER’: It is encouraging though to see in these movements throughout the Middle East that anti-Americanism is not a rallying flag.

TOM BROKAW: Right.

REMNICK: Despite all our missteps and a lot worse in the last ten years, whether it was going to Iraq, or Abu Ghraib, or, or, or all these kinds of violations, anti-Americanism was not a banner in Cairo, in Tripoli. It’s in fact just the opposite.

JOE SCARBOROUGH, HOST: That’s one of the really, one of the stunning developments you did not see Israelis flags and American flags being burned to whip the crowd into a frenzy.

REMNICK: I think quite frankly the difference in administrations is partly responsible for that. The tone and tenor of the difference between the Bush administration and the Obama administration is at least in part responsible for that

Bush responsible for Arab Spring? .... LOL! are you stoned or just stupid?

So Cap'n Sillys' BS is totally bogus.

The right that claimed Iraq had WMD is unable to name a single valid reason for the deaths of their fellow Americans?
