The GOP has known about FOLEY for over 5 years!

Oct. 1, 2006 — A Republican staff member warned Congressional pages five years ago to watch out for Congressman Mark Foley, according to a former page.

Matthew Loraditch, a page in the 2001-2002 class, told ABC News he and other pages were warned about Foley by a supervisor.

Loraditch, the president of the Page Alumni Association, said the pages were told "don't get too wrapped up in him being too nice to you and all that kind of stuff."

Staff members at the House clerk's office did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Yeah sure news from the "All Be Communists" news network ;)
Dontcha know we are just supposed to believe blogs ?

CBS/AP) Rep. Thomas Reynolds, head of the House Republican election effort, said Saturday he told Speaker Dennis Hastert months ago about concerns that a fellow GOP lawmaker had sent inappropriate messages to a teenage boy. Hastert's office said aides referred the matter to the proper authorities last fall but they were only told the messages were "over-friendly."

But Democrats said Sunday that their Republican counterparts should have kept Democrats in the loop – and now must conduct a thorough investigation.

Reynolds, R-N.Y., was told about e-mails sent by Rep. Mark Foley and is now defending himself from Democratic accusations that he did too little. Foley, R-Fla., resigned Friday after ABC News questioned him about the e-mails to a former congressional page and about sexually suggestive instant messages to other pages.

Looks like Hastert did the right thing when the concern became known to him.

This should have all been out in the open... Hastert did not do the right thing because he failed to tell the Democrats on the Ethics committee... and he failed to tell the public!

Hassert hass just demonstrated true republican form. When caught squeal denail loudly :)

Only today did he send a public letter to the AG... only after it was public and the rep. had resigned.

Only once it served to his political advantage did he call for a real investigation!

Again, I think it depends on which messages were brought to their attention. The one's from the initial report were dubious, however there were other messages from 2003 I believe that were explicit in nature. If those were brought to their attention, then certainly, the public should have known about them, but the one where he asked about what he wanted for his birthday and to send him a picture in and of themselves wouldn't necessarily be grounds for public exposure and disgracing (IMO). He could have definitely argued he was setting up a photo op to show he was doing something for Katrina victims and that he was getting pictures together for his boards.

That's not what I said at all. Did I say we should ignore the MSM and only rely on other sources? EEEERRRRRRTTT! Nope, we need to consider all the information from all the sources, not just the 'preferred' ones. Apparent Rep culpability in this does not exonerate dems of their responsibility.

So, the pages knew for 5 years, but the democrats (Sgt.Schultz voice) "Knew nothing. NOTHING!"

Let me make this perfectly clear - After a thorough investigation (second only to a colonoscope in depth and pain) anyone who knew of, and failed to act in a positive sense, on this apparent LONG-TERM problem needs to be rooted out, tried, fired, jailed, etc. I want anyone who knew and failed to act to be punished just as I want those who knew and obstructed or covered to be punished.

He told the appropriate investigatory service. Please back up the contention that he didn't tell the Dems. That they weren't "in the loop" does not mean they had no knowledge.

Yes, every allegation should be made known to the public before it is investigated. [/sarcasm]

The pages were warned not to be excited about his friendly nature... that is different than the pages knew he was seekign sexual partners amungst the pags!

that's how I felt when you implied I said no democrats knew about the messages.
Sorry, I probably crossed wires with you and other posters.

Do you agree with my last paragraph in the previous?

So why would YOU post a thread "GOP knew about FOLEY for 5 years" if you weren't trying to imply that they were aware fully of his (now alleged to be) inappropriate conduct and had been covering? Please, I'd like to hear the explanation for this smear.

Trog’s argument here is the same argument that Rush Limbaugh used when he started claiming that Hillary Clinton killed Vince Foster. I’m not saying she did it or had anything to do with it but this information is out there and I think we should look at it. Then for a year he kept talking about all the evidence that Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton were culpapable in Vince Foster’s suicide. Because if somebody says it must be true or at least worthy of discussion, and we have to look at every angle. Too bad nobody concocted a website that claimed the Republicans killed Vince Foster to blame it on the Clinton’s.

Funny how such a scandal which could cause serious damage to the Republicans control of Congress is now being painted as a Democratic problem by a person who claims to be a libertarian. Funny how these libertarian types run to the defense of their buddies in the Republican party whenever they see the Republicans leadership seriously threatened by a scandal. Remember the Jack Abramoff scandal, at first that was all about Republicans but then the right started saying "the Democrats did it, too" and soon the right had so effectively painted a few Democrats who took money from people who gave money to Abramoff, that is, Abramoff never gave a cent to Democrats but some people who supported and gave money to him did, that it was soon being said everywhere that the Democrats took money from Abramoff and then it was all painted as a bi-partisan scandal. So Ya, I am sure that this is the same thing going on here. Crank up that Right wing spin machine and spin it left. And good so-called libertarians will spend all day spinning for you... That Trog is here going after this shows me just how serious the right wing really thinks this is.... Perhaps he can't really believe or handle the fact that his Republican party can be this screwed up...

Yes. I do. As I've stated numerous times, I think it depends on what note that they saw. The first one I looked at wasn't necessarily incriminating. Others were. As for any 'pre-judgements' on Foley: I've already decided he's guilty. You can chastise all you want about due process, the guys a perv and I'd put money on it.

Truly the guy is a perv. I hope he gets the full weight of the laws he helped to pass.

I agree that ALL involved should be punished to the fullest extent that the law allows as an example to help deter future kiddie pedos in congress.
