The great blizzards of 2026

We have a lot of problems up here with highways and roads. The frost line goes down four feet into the ground which means a lot of cracking and buckling no matter what you do which means a lot of maintenance . Up here if you build a home with a basement under it,....which EVERYONE does,...the code requires footings to be dug and poured with concrete at that four foot level.
We have a high clay content soil in most of the metroplex. My area excluded. The clay expands and contracts and it is horrible on foundations and roads. I 20 south of Dallas feels like a roller coaster

Yep. A lot of parts of the south a re like that too,

For once,..I agree with you on something. :) It really isn't their fault though,....they just don't have the experience when it comes to driving in it. What we take for granted and drive in every day for months at a time they have no clue how to handle. Pro tip for you southies................For real,......When coming up to a stopping situation on ice, well in advance take your car out of drive and put it in neutral. It will take the power off your tires and you will slow down and stop with no problems without sliding past.
And if you need to down shift to low , it will help slow down the car.

I've been in more than my fair share of blizzards and am witness to Southerners not being able to drive when things get slippery.
I have lived in a lake effect snow band area all my life , and we have gotten blasted with OVER 7 almost 8 feet of snow over night 5 or 6 times in the last 15 years , it comes down you go out and clean it up and go on.
And I can say I have been down in GA where they had about an inch of snow and the place almost shut down,
Had two cars driving side by side at about 10 MPH and neither one of them would back off so people that knew how to drive in it could get by.

Just slow down and don't drive foolishly. Simple as that. AND....as T bird would tell you as well,....don't get too close to the gravel edge of the road that is now covered in snow and ice. It will literally suck your car in like damn vacuum cleaner. Happens all the time to people. Had it happen to me a time or two myself when I was much younger.

Another thing is when all this snow turns to slush , it can get a hold of your car and take you where ever it wants to and there is nothing you can do about it except try to down shift and pump the breaks and try to get control back.
It can be a lot of fun.

Yep,....been there done that too! LOL

No problem, and thank YOU too. see,....we do have a lot in common with each other. EVERYONE in here does. Its all just damn politics that brings about the problems.
Well I am pretty sure not a lot of people on here ever had snow drifts like we had here during the Blizzard of 77,
the snow was so deep you had to dig DOWN 4 or 5 feet to see the top of the telephone poles.
Now that is some deep snow.

I am in western NY about 35 miles south of Buffalo right in the lake effect snow belt.
We get it all the time , 2,3,4, feet of snow over night is normal, Nothing big, so with that kind of snow you really need to get use to it and learn how to drive in it or you aren't going any where.

I had an old girlfriend from that area when I was in the Army. Cute little Blondie! ;)

I take my foot off the accelerator before reaching bridges and overpasses and coast over the overpass.
