Absolutely there are problems in inner-city schools, but to suggest that either one is for school vouchers or they are somehow anti-black is the kind of emotionally-driven ignorance right-wingers love. If that's all you have .. go talk to someone else.

1. In order to fund the voucher/private school program, resources will have to be taken away from the public school system, where the vast majority of American children will still be attending regardless of any voucher system.

2. Vouchers will not provide the full cost of private tuition and related costs .. thus any children unable to attend for any reason will be left to an increasingly under-funded and less important system. Lotteries are already required to get in.

3. Vouchers are an answer on the cheap. Instead of addressing the failures of American education .. failures that extend way beyond the black community .. vouchers are presented as the answer .. presented by the way by the very people who stand to profit from it.

Desperation has driven the rise of support for vouchers in the black community and I'd imagine my stand against them is in contrast to what most African-Americans think about vouchers .. but that's not an uncomfortable position for me.
