That IS the connection. They wouldn't be going after him if he would've simply "stayed in line". They only go after their own if they step out of line or are no longer useful to them.
Once again, FEDERAL law, not New York law.
And once again, New York has such good laws, it is where the world goes to invest its money.

I think the thing we need to remember about debating MAGA folks is that logic and consistency play no role in the conversation with them.
Take Trump's conviction for the 34 felonies. The MAGA folks call it "lawfare" and say the Biden Crime Family leveraged the DOJ to take out Trump. But the same Biden Crime Family FAILED to use the DOJ to save Biden's son from conviction. No problem. Just ignore that second bit and the conspiracy still stands.
The way you know how to figure out if the legal decision was right or wrong is: Did it benefit Trump or not. The former = "Good decision", the lattter = "Evil Biden Crime Family Lawfare Against all that is Holy".
It's actually a pretty easy rubric to remember.
Florida would be a blue state if states had to vote in accordance with the politics of the people most responsible for bailing them out year after year after year after year after year for hurricane damage.
