The Language of God

As I said, you can THINK they are the same, you can even continue to CLAIM they are the same, but we've already demonstrated there is something different. Humans act upon their curiosity, to explore and find answers. No other species utilizes "curiosity" in the same way. This is why apes and gorillas don't win Nobel Prizes, and humans do. This is why dogs and cats don't publish books, and win Pulitzer Prizes, and humans do. This is why a human discovered nuclear fission, not a chimpanzee.

No. you're just spouting some stupid idiocy based on a false distinction behind curiousity and a "deisire to understand". Make a note, there is none.

No idiocy except from your end. Curiosity doesn't begin to explain human desire to understand. If it did, other animals which exhibit curiosity, would accomplish things on the same level as humans, and that doesn't happen. You can keep claiming they are the same, but it's obvious to anyone who isn't completely retarded, they are not the same thing.

Now, is this where we degrade the conversation into a meaningless "yah-yah" routine back and forth at each other like 7-year-olds? If so, I am outta here. You have to support your arguments and claims, you can't just continue to repeat yourself over and over, without basis for what you're saying. I know that is kinda your style, but you really need to grow up and learn, adults don't converse like that.

In all fairness, we can not explain them because we do not understand them, yet, in my opinion.

When it comes to the mechanisms of the Universe we are not that much more advanced then cavemen.

I respect people of faith as long as they respect me and my beliefs. It is when people of faith try to push their "faith" on my science that I become concerned.

The two are light years away, IMO

The word "spiritual" bothers me, though.

To me, it has always had a religious connotation.

I need to find another word to explain what it is I believe.

Well, okay, so you are now shifting your point of religion from "explain the unexplained" to "not concerned with the unexplained." Which one is it? And, if it's as you claim (latest), that man worships God so he doesn't have to be concerned with the unexplained, then why is religion always doing things to help the needy and feed the hungry? Seems they wouldn't be concerned, since it's Gods will and he will take care of it.

So we see, neither of your arguments for religion hold water. It isn't merely something people do to explain the unexplained, because the unexplained still remains, despite religious belief. It's also not so religious people won't have to be concerned with the unexplained, because they still remain concerned.

You have now failed twice to explain why people believe in God. I think it is a very good indication, you really don't have a clue as to why people worship God. Perhaps your analysis needs reexamination? I would suggest you 'pray' about it, but............

The needy is not unexplained???

Neither of my arguments FOR religion hold water? I sure did not think I was arguing FOR religion.

Pray? I will tell you what I will do some prime cursing for your soul. The effect will be just the same.

I guess it is true that people with mental problems pursure a career in Psychology.

I don't believe for a second his story about getting an undergraduate degree in psych. The guy clearly has a personality disorder, which you'd think he'd spot himself if he had such a degree. Not to mention his clear lack of understanding of the scientific process or respect for science in general is pretty good evidence against his claim.

I think he is Toby's first cousin. Weren't they both from AL?

You are a perpetual liar. It's a miracle if you can get through breakfast without lying. You are a pathological liar, you will literally lie instead of telling the truth, just to see if you can get away with the lie! I bet you thought the post you made was cute and funny, and it would irritate me, but I am used to you lying. It doesn't bother me when you abandon the truth and start slandering people, because that's what you live for! And while your pinhead buddies probably thought it was cute and funny, it just validates what the rest of us already knew about you, that you can't tell the truth, and you are a snot-nose little twerp pinhead jerk. The fact that I don't have to point that out, that you've done all the work for me, really makes me smile. Thanks!

Oh yeah, we can tell you were not the least bit "annoyed" when you wrote this Dix, and that you were smiling and perhaps even merrily giggling.

Just be careful because too much of this kind of "smiling" can cause heart attack and/or stroke.

Needing to understand is the definition of curiousity, you fucking oaf.

And some animals exhibit curiousity, and they accomplish things that are similar to the things we can accomplish.

A reluctance to anthropomorphize is not good science, it's just politics as usual.

You really don't sound like someone who is smiling. You sound like someone whose face is beet-red, is gritting their teeth and pounding on the keyboard w/ their fists.

Maybe it's Rebel who is smiling?

And you really don't sound like someone who is competent. You sound like someone who is just a dumb Lummox, who is so ashamed of their profound stupidity, they changed names to avoid association.

Maybe that's really chocolate pudding in your diaper?

I didn't change names, though. Lorax was a guy in my office. I got so riled up one day when I heard how badly he was being treated on the FP site that I had to register here to respond to his tormentors.

Really.

Here's the thing, you are simply failing to understand what I have said. Curiosity is a fairly simple characteristic. It means "inquisitive" and that's all. Lots of living things are "curious" as we've already discussed, including humans. However, humans have something more than simple curiosity. You want to lump it all in together and make it curiosity too, but we can see that is not the case.

Mankind retains the characteristic of inspiration to go along with curiosity. Not only are we curious, we also are inspired to find answers and understanding. It is the inspiration driven by curiosity, of which I am speaking, and you don't want to recognize. But it is YOUR argument which fails the test of logic here. Regardless of 'semantics' or word understandings, you must admit, humans have achieved far more than any other species on the planet. If simple curiosity were the explanation, some species would be competing for 2nd, and we don't see that. Nothing else even remotely comes close to human achievement. So there has to be some other characteristic in play, curiosity alone, doesn't explain it.

Do other animals learn from curiosity? Perhaps, but they lack the inspiration to explore and find answers and understanding. Humans clearly have something different than the rest. I've been calling it 'inspiration' here, for lack of a better word, but I suppose you could call it 'humanity' as well. Whatever it is, nothing can dispute it's considerably more than the simple 'curiosity' found abundantly in the animal kingdom.

the "inspiration" you're hanging your idiot hat on is completely unquantifiable.

Why does your argument depend on defining words a certain way?

you're as dumb as fucking rock, seriously. Verbose, yet moronic. You try so hard, yet you CREATE stupidity with your moronicness.

You shouldn't allow the facade of religion to deter you from acknowledging your spirituality.

Religion is doctrine and is divisive by its very nature.

Spirituality is your connection to all things.

They aren't even closely related.

Spirituality is about each person's connection with the Divine. Religion is about organizing people and raising money. There is a positive side in the fellowship but the rest is to divisive.

So no new agey groups raise money? Mainline churches have nothing to say about the connection to the divine?

you're simply wrong on both counts.

Make another attempt at how you eco wacko earth mother gaia anti-human fascisto-genociders are so much better than methodists.
