Everyone knows that Bush didn't do enough. I suspect if we were to compare the efforts Bush took to the efforts Obama has taken, we'd no doubt see how much greater Obama and his crack team of problem solvers are at crisis management.
Do you have a quick list of the things Obama has done?
We could easily list the stuff Bush did.
Nothing, right? Well, I mean he did nothing right, right?
So far I haven't seen Obama making much difference in this mess. He's like a motivational speaker and that's about it. It's our fault for turning the job into that, BTW, but usually, the media lends us a hand at shaking our sticks at the president. This time around, they are noticably absent from their regular post.
I think Bush could have made a difference in getting people out of the streets sooner. That was a bad situation, and the local authorities failed completely. One thing Bush & his supporters always trumpeted was the fact that he was a "leaderrr", and that was a time when leadership was sorely needed.
Again, that's pretty much what I have faulted Bush for; I don't get on him about the levies, or not getting people evacuated (not his job), or rebuilding the city, or any of that.
I don't see a comparable situation here to Katrina; to me, Obama's main job right now is getting relief to the workers & people who have been economically affected by this, and so far, he's done okay on that score. I hate reading about the red tape as far as getting some of the equipment down there, and there are things he should have done to expedite that, but I haven't seen yet where anything would have made too much of a difference, unlike the situation w/ Katrina, where people were actually waiting in the street, in need of rescue.
