She did not need a weapon. She was at the head of a frenzied mob that would have killed politicians if they caught t them. They were close. Babbit died because she was sucked into right-wing Trumpian conspiracy theories. She was taught to hate those who disagreed with Trump. She would have fit well with rightys on this board. They are also haters. She was breaking through the door that separated the Trump insurrectionists from the politicians. It was bad luck she got killed, but it was due to her actions. NOTHING MORE. Why weren't you Trumpys shot? Because you were not breaking down that door..
She was committing treason. Still no proof she wasn't armed. She got what she deserved.

It is my opinion that the vast majority of the people of the American far right WOULD. In fact, it is my opinion that the vast majority of the people of the American far right would want long prison sentences for doing most of the things that they currently are claiming were only slight infractions.

The White Supremacists and Qanon terrorists had been attacking for about 2 hours before breaching that final barrier to Congressional reps. They'd been warned to stop the entire time. All the police should have opened up once the terrorists broke through that final barrier. Next time they will. It'll save money on trying them and putting them in prison for 20 years.

You didn't read it did you? It clearly shows Byrd had no reason to shoot Babbitt. It shows she was given no warning and was not armed. Byrd acted in a criminal and inappropriate manner, and one can easily speculate from the reading of those documents that Byrd was scared shitless about the situation, unlike most or all of the officers around him, and even those mixed into the crowd. It is likely that his panic--and that appears to be the case--made him act in an irrational and stupid manner.
Very bad thing for the guy supposedly in charge to do.

Depends on the state. I personally don't think so, but your analogy isn't accurate. If someone is found in a public building, do you shoot them on sight? Many states (particularly Democrat run ones) give you no right to self-defense so you would be prosecuted.

This is why I say you should watch more of the footage from 1/6. It wasn't someone who was just "found" in a public building. There was an angry & pretty violent mob breaching the Capitol. They had just smashed one of the windows, and Babbit was climbing through it. The cop DID say he issued a warning, and people were clearly on the other side of the window aiming their guns. In the footage, there are rioters who yell that "they have guns."
The courts recognize that in these cases, cops sometimes have to make split-second decisions without knowing all of the facts.
It was pretty lucky that there wasn't a lot more shooting that day. The cops at one of the entrances were also about to open fire before reinforcements from VA arrived, just in time. They were getting beaten up and overwhelmed.

There have actually been many incidents of police shooting people inappropriately...and often these shooting are deemed by officials in both red and blue states to be deemed acceptable.
Stop with the bullshit, TA. There definitely is a bit of hypocrisy on the parts of both the left and right on issues like this...but to call the shooting of Babbitt, considering the circumstances, MURDER (as you did) is way off the charts.
Only against the violent ones; active attackers. Any American staying in place or back from the line has an unalienable right to do so.
